do laptop need them or just the old computer?

I voted hot, although personally I'm waiting to see what the 6950 has to offer and what price it comes out for. I think the 6950 and 6970 are due by the end of November, so it's not long to wait now!

so torn between getting this or another 5770 in crossfire!! great price tho"!

It only reached 42 degrees when I posted this, and it was £10 cheaper :(
Great card though. Eats everything I throw at it !
I can confirm that there is a 2 year Warrenty from VTX3D as well. (I emailed them).

I just checked, and the following code still gives you £10 off : TECH808
Making it £169.98.
It's a reference card, but is really solid. Weighs a ton.
I was a bit sceptical about VTX3D. They are a offshoot of powercooler, specialising in ATI/AMD cards.
Reassured by the email I got from them. They do a 2 year warrenty, and gave me contact details for any RMA or queries.
Drivers you can just get from the AMD site anyway.
It's quiet, runs cool and I am very impressed with the performance. I would deffinatly recommend to anyone who was in the market for a new graphics card in this pricerange.

I wouldn't personally go x-fire again.
I got 2 5770s last year, and looking at the numbers they're a steal..... bang/buck etc. When they work, they're awesome.
However, IF a game don't support x-fire you'll be running on a single card. And a single 5770 doesn't cut it in my book.
Now, budget wise: £100 WILL get you a quick boost if you purchase another 5770.

I'm looking at either a 580, a 6950 or 90% certain missing this generation and getting the next in sept/oct11.
Good luck with your hunting.

Are ATI releasing drivers for 3D; or are we waiting for 3rd parties?
Nvidea are still the way to go atm for 3D.
I'm still waiting for eyefinity without an active display port.......................
#11
MrReynolds, Why wait, the display port to vga is only £10 on dealextreme?
#12
Great card for the money. Only card I would really consider upgrading to atm, GTX 460 and 6850 if money is tight. Still worth waiting to see wait hte 69X0s are like and at what price they come in
#13
How big are these bad boys? I am sure i have seen a photo of it compared with a GTX 460 and these dwarfed the 460!
#14
how much percent performance increase over 4770?

Pretty huge. The 4770 is below the 4870 by about 15-20% I think and look how this compares to the 4870 on these benchmarks:

http://img.hexus.net/v2/graphics_cards/ati/sapphire/6800CD/Graphs3/COD2.png

http://img.hexus.net/v2/graphics_cards/ati/sapphire/6800CD/Graphs3/JC2.png

BOTTOM LINE:

This card is twice as fast as the 4870 and by that we can infer that it will be more than twice as fast as a 4770, I would estimate it would be about 115-120% faster.

Quite an upgrade

For the money this looks like a very decent card. I think I will get one.
#17
Unbelievable how much graphics cards move on. Look at the 4870 propping the chart up, only a couple of years ago it was one of the best cards you could buy!

I'm running Eyefinity on three 23" LG monitors and Bad Company 2 is awesome.
I brought this Active display port

I DID mention about the active port, BUT....£20 isn't too much to stump up I guess!!! Thanks for the heads up.
