there ok for wot they are but the quad intel would kill this chip

Agreed for the money you are better of with a Q6600 quad core chip - save £65!
#3
but like the original poster pointed out if u already have a am2 setup and dont want to sheel out for i7 or c2d then it would make serious sense to get this

also it does get a spanking review on hexus http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=16757

Uhh, no. These are Phenom II chips, not the original Phenom. They're both considerably faster than a Q6600 and use less power. Just wish I could justify the money to buy one!

Depends if you overclock the 6600 and also the review was fairly pants (68% for a processor isnt that great).

Yeah great if you have the mobo so support it but if starting from new would still consider intel - and I was an AMD fan up antil I needed to upgrade recently! Pricedrop may justify it but £ for £ its not as good.

Hi,68% is good for a Hexus review, super critical compared to some other reviews/reviewers(see last comment in the review).

not up there with intel yet, but the gap has closed a lot. Welcome back to the race AMD.
I think that if you are already on amd due for an upgrade, this chip should be considered (well if you looking for sky high components that is)
If you are on intel already, its not worth the move to amd.

That said if you building from scratch, i think the total components for amd (similar specs of course) is cheaper than intel. Put the difference in the graphics card and you are good to go - source from silentpcreviews.com

The phenom II 940 is far better than the q6600?! it competes with the core i7 920 and whilst using ddr2 tech, the new DDR3 phenoms will be better and will no doubt beat all the current core 2 quads....
