This is the lowest I've seen this. It's usually around £95-100. This is amazing value for the money and will overclock to around 3.8ghz easily although you will need a cooler.

Asus M4A78LT-M LE AMD 760G Linky for amazon (£43)

This will allow you to overclock and is recommended by many. The only downside is no sata 6gb/s port but if you don't plan to use a solid sate hard drive it will be fine. There is no usb 3 as well but that isn't expected for £43.

All in all a great budget board.

I have this, only recently put it all together, mind you. Hell of a CPU.

+£7.99 delivery, slightly cheaper, i'd be more inclined to buy from amazon (nectar points), but Crescent may ship marginally faster, good to know tho, thanks

Wow! Shame it's from them. I bought a power supply from there recently and I had problems with them. The power supply was about £10 cheaper than everywhere else but then I got an email saying it was out of stock. I complained and I finally received it. It says 1580 in stock so I don't suspect they would have the same problem.

The new AMD Llano processors are coming out within the next 2 month and the new socket FM1 which will have lots of new technologies and gpu/cpu in 1 chip. No point buying an AM3 computer with FM1 just about to be released.

Depends on your budget, I mean last year I built a cheap gaming PC for £400 runs all games without an issue using a HD5770 C2D - E6850 3.0ghz

Amazon wins purely because of the return policy, which is vital for pc components should something go wrong.

Well your more likely to be looking at a am3+ mobo which this processor will work on.

How are you cooling it mate? Care to share your settings?
Got mine 2 years ago when first came out, agree it's a great CPU but always thought the reports of stable 4.0ghz+ oc were BS, or at least back then they were.

"Depends on your budget, I mean last year I built a cheap gaming PC for £400 runs all games without an issue using a HD5770 C2D - E6850 3.0ghz"

-Sounds like an obsolete cpu -same score as pentium e5500 ~£50

I really don't think these will be available in quantity with 2 months. There is nothing wrong with buying AM3 now, this processor is a hot deal!
#22
I have had this CPU since its release, its very good and fast indeed. I got the first stepping one which had problems running ram at 1333mhz when more than 2 dimm's are present, so running 4x2gb @ 1066mhz at the moment.

I'm sure this is the second stepping one though.
#23
i've got exactly this CPU, had it a while now, great chip :)
#24
Good price, however be aware that AMD are planning a price drop imminently, so you could seen another 10%+ or so off the current pricing.

Fantastic chip, I've got the exact same one in my main rig. If you get it, ditch the stock cooler for a CoolerMaster or suchlike 'cause the stock one sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

Thanks for this mufcmark123

From your name let me first congratulate on 19 PL title!!!!

What would be the next best MB with USB 3.0 not worried about SSD at the moment.

Also the cooling fan on AMAZON http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/arctic-cooling-freezer-7-pro-rev-2-cpu-cooler-13-50-delivered-amazon-nectar-poin/934869 , would this be good for Overclocking !!

thanks

The thing is though, new things usually cost more. This is a great buy

Amazon Review on the motherboard???

This review is from: ASUS M4A78LT-M LE - AMD 760G - Socket AM3 - DDR3 1800(OC) - SATA 3Gb/s - SATA RAID - MicroATX - Onboard Graphics (Accessory)
It says "Compatible Processors: Sempron, Phenom II X3, Athlon II X2, Phenom II X2, Athlon II X4, Athlon II X3, Phenom II X4" alas this motherboard only Supports a CPU up to 95 Watts I purchased this board to go with the AMD Phenom II X4 Quad 955 Core 3.2GHz Processor 4 x 512 KB Boxed - Black Edition rated at 125 Watts needless to say I've returned it for a refund.......thanks Amazon good motherboard apart from that though.

Just because Tech has a new brother doesn't mean its useless, I'm using a Core 2 Quad Q8400, its a great chip, the only thing holding mine back is the weak motherboard motherboards (can't warrant a new high end MB as might as well go for new processor too)
#33

I've got an 'AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 640 3.0GHz', which is good enough but, YES, AMD stock coolers tend to be noisy.
#34
These ones are amazing, can overclock up to 4.0 ghz on just air, a **** amazing ( although that was the black edition).
#35
Good value if you have an existing compatible motherboard, however if your making a new build an Intel P67 1155 motherboard Around £80ish and a Intel Core i5 2500k £150ish is much better value. Performance/price..
#36
Yeah, you might as well pay more and get a 2500k system at the moment, in the long term you won't regret it. There's a pretty big jump in performance for not a huge jump in price, and lower power consumption too.

This offers about 70% of the performance of an i5 2500k and remember that the motherboards cost more.

For around £400you could build this

Amd x4 955
Asus M4A78LT-M LE AMD 760G
Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 2 x 2GB DDR3
Sapphire Hd 5850 extreme
be Quiet Pure Power 530W
Seagate barracuda 500gb
Coolermaster 212+
Dvd drive
Antec 100

This would be a good system for £400. It won't match a i5 2500k but most people don't have the extra £130 that it'll cost.

Could you recommend a motherboard or 2 for the 2500k please?
