Good find heat added
#2
anyone else have this processor? mine kept crapping out over the summer with overheating, it has a low upper temperature limit around 65dC...and this was combo'd with a decent heatsink/fan and coolermaster case. Didn't even oc it either!
#3
What temperatures was it idling at? Did you try reseating it with good thermal paste?
#4
it idled around 45dC, and when playing games shot up into high 50s...used decent thermal paste too, MX2 arctic cooling iirc. Granted though, it was hot over summer. But I wouldve expected a higher thermal limit, especially since alot of the Intel cpus, especially the mobile ones can go upto 100dC

Mine peaks at 82c when gaming. Doesn't crash though. Your's sounds faulty. Maybe get in touch with AMD (3 year warranty)

I have the Phenom II 550 black edition unlocked to 4 cores @ 3.1 ghz cooling with eco coolit liquid cooler.. with max load temp @ 52-3. Any reason why I should change to this?

Not really if that's working out stable for you

Probably not if you have to ask. If there is nothing wrong with your current setup, why change it? I've not upgraded my CPU/mobo for ages as there is not as much need to these days. A GPU upgrade is all I've done in the last 5 years and it's still going strong.
#13
if you were getting 40's/50's on these phenoms you definitely haveapplied something wrong; applied the paste too thickly or seated the fan badly.
#14
how does this fit in my laptop!?
#15
2 months to early for me to buy and socket AM2+ not AM3 otherwise i would have defo bought this over the athlon II x4 im eyeing up!
#16
Hot;
One of the last opportunities to upgrade a AM2+ mobo. And at a bargain price.

I wasn't planning on upgrading my 8650 Triple core any time soon but now I have seen this I'm going to!

Can anyone confirm to me that it is deff worth upgrading to this? Should see a big improvement I would imagine?
#22

For casual stuff like browsing no but for gaming and encoding yes.

I'd say upgrade around christmas when you'll see a big price drop for the more expensive cpus to make way for the new models.

After looking further I think the Mobo is only AM3 and not AM2+, damn!
#33
I got one of these from lambdatek about a month ago as i heard if your lucky and have the right mobo then you can unlock these to a phenom 2 quad core 955.
Not only was I lucky but I also have a very stable chip that runs OC'd at 3.6Ghz, with a little more tinkering I reckon I can get it to run at 3.8/3.9Ghz stably.
I wouldn't post it as a deal because there is no guarantee about it but I took a punt and it worked out well for me.

I too got the X555 chip from Scan a couple of months ago and an Asus M4 A89GTD Pro/USB 3 Mobo and the Mobo unlocks the cores a the flick of a switch in the Bios.

It seems to be a given these days with recent yields being better that the dual core Phenom II cores can be unlocked by the mobo.

The system I have is now running real sweet and benchmarks for what is now called a Phenom II X4 B55 are better than an i3 and nearly i5 specs all for a fraction of the cost of those chips.

Exactly the same temps as you for this processor. I also use the Arctic cooling fan (30-35 quid but is well worth saving you forking out for a new processor). Also use an Antec case with 3 fans inside.
No problems from me either.....Cept i paid about £180 about a year or so ago for this ;)

I would never go back to anything other than a quad core! If you want a computer to last, make sure you have good cooling!

Deal is hot.... lets hope the you get the right fan to keep it cool (the processor not the deal).

Good price, still prefer my 920 though
#38
I have the 920 OC'd to 3Ghz, with a good cooler. Really good CPU.

Might go for this and pump up my rig to its max capability.

At the moment i'm running -

Antec P180
Asus Crosshair Original
AMD Athlon X2 2.6ghz Windosor,
8GB Nvidia RAM
80 GB Intel X25-M SSD
2TB Samsung Hard drives
Corsair AX750 80Plus Gold PSU
Crap Graphics card- but I dont game.

Current Win7 X64 Ultimate Boot Time = 12 seconds and 19 seconds to desktop (no overclocking).

Beefing my rig with this badboy will give me the absolute best performance.

What's with the 'Zen Engagement' fee it charges on every item, seems to be about 12% extra for every item (inc VAT), it makes it look like you can remove it, but there is no option to accept, just 'Fermer' which if my French/Belgium serves is close, the Zen Engagement items are still there afterwards, so the price is £81 CPU + £8.46 Zen Engagement + £8.50 postage = £97.96.

I'll stay neutral, as it still isn't a bad price, but not as good as it first seemed.
