Will this be a huge (i.e. worth dropping £100 on) upgrade from a Dual Core X2 6000+ ?
Got one in the basket as it is nearly £160 at my local computer shop...but not sure I will get the benefit. Hardly play games; just 3D rendering stuff and photoshop.

Isn't that a really old processor?

These are phenom II processors which will pretty much make your PC lag-free, i'm using one at the moment. These are also quad core at 3.0GHz (and phenom II rival intel speeds, whereas X2 6000+ would probably be about 2.3GHz intel speed IIRC) so it definitely would be an upgrade to what you're using at the moment.

Whether or not you need the upgrade though, thats for you to decide :p

BARGAIN !!! :w00t:

Just bought 2 for me and my mate !! Cheers OP !!!
#12
X2 6000+ is dual core each running at 3ghz.

Tempted though, especially at £97.89

Heat and rep added regardless.
#13
Just ordered one...what the hell.
Does this come with the heatsink though?

It does say retail boxed which usually means it does.
#14
It comes with a heatsink yes, and a fan on the heatsink :P and preapplied thermal paste. However on the one I recently purchased the hsf isnt anything special, it works fine at about 44 degrees idle and 54 load. If you want to overclock you'd need something else.
#15
Does it come with cd/dvd disk drive, HDD and operating system?

No.

This is the CPU only, not an entire computer.
btw, this is an awesome price for this CPU. Heat added!

The last AMD CPU I bought was a XP2600 and those CPU used to generate more heat than the sun, I decided to go back to Intel with a Quad E6400 and the CPU chucks out hardly any heat.

I'm not sure that one exists.....

Excellent upgrade for anyone with an AM2+ motherboard, not sure I'd choose this over an AM3 setup if building from scratch though - think AM2/AM2+ is at the end of it's life now but can't see anyone needing to upgrade from this for a while anyway

For 3D work the 940 will be about 3x faster, provided your software can multi-thread (most can).

assuming around £50ish for the CPU, this is good http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148715

add an item for 99p+ for free delivery (around 5 days)

A better alternative would be the AMD Athlon II 245. It outperforms the E5400 in almost any benchmark.

That's a supreme CPU, I bought one with a £40 asrock m/b, and now have the CPU running at 3.4Ghz stable and pretty cool (instead of the 2.5Ghz it comes as).
CPU idles around 38c and maxes out around 60-62c with stock cooler (but decent paste).

Ah, what you would need is my Asrock mobo and X26000 dual core CPU that I will be selling when this replacement arrives...

Just a quick post to say how incredibly impressed I am with the service from SVP. Ordered yesterday afternoon (thanks to OP), cheaped out and settled for free delivery - get an email this morning saying that it's not only already been despatched, but in fact it's actually out for delivery as I type.
At the same time ended up ordering some bits off ebuyer (they were cheapest) and I'm told that they'll be with me next Monday. Now I'm not complaining about ebuyer's service, as the penalty for paying less is obviously waiting longer, but I'm just amazed at SVP's service. Only ever used em in the past, very rarely for buying CD/DVD media, but will definitely be considering them for other bits in the future (didn't even realise they did PC components till yesterday!)
Anyway, in short - a massive thank you to SVP (and of course the OP)

Hi Chris,

My order number is :

Cheers !!!

I've just had my confirmed order refunded with no explanation ........what crap customer service !!!

I now need to buy another 2 CPU's for the 2 Mobo's i bought for them !!!

Not impressed !!!
#37
Likewise, I ordered pretty early and they were in stock. Has been showing as picking since yesterday and now I get a refunded email too. Still showing as picking

Absolutely gutted! and not impressed. I promised my mobo and processor to a friend once the order was confirmed. I never even got asked if I wanted to wait until they got more stock.
...and I find it hard to believe this won't be in stock again pretty soon.
#38
i also had a really bad bit of customer service couple of years ago from SVP and would never use them again but equally they do get some really good reviews

That's a shame... I've had very limited exposure to SVP, but have never had any problems. On the flipside, I've had plenty of companies do what's happened to others here. Went for a deal a couple of months ago on a cheapish graphics card on ebuyer who told me they were "awaiting stock" on the website for 2 weeks, then when I finally queried myself they just said "actually we're not going to stock it anymore so we'll refund you". When I replied, indignant that they hadn't actively informed me, I received a vague apology and that was that.
Saying that, I've often had pleasant, problem-free experiences with ebuyer and some bargains (thanks to this site :))
My point is that with any retailer, people are likely to have good and bad experiences. Things inevitably go wrong and my theory is that you should hope that things go right more often than otherwise. I'm sure there're loads of people who got this deal and are more than happy with the service, but are keeping quiet.
Anyway... my 2c.
