This is the fastest CPU for AMD's FM2+ socket. It's a quad-core 3.7/4.0 GHz CPU based on AMD's Steamroller architecture.

It's the successor to the Piledriver-based X4-760K (3.8Ghz/4.1GHz), and it should be around 10% faster, as well as running cooler: http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/5156/43/amd-a10-7850k-kaveri-review-amds-new-apu-steamroller-vs-piledriver The 760k is outselling this chip on Amazon and is more expensive, so a lot of people making bad purchasing decisions!

Basically this chip beats the £50 G3258 quite easily, but it doesn't match up to the £86 Core i3-4130.

For benchmarks/reviews - this is identical to the A10-7850K, priced at £111.34, but there is no GPU.

G3258 still wins on single core speeds, and will beat the 860K on most games if overclocked. £47 for a G3258 with a £24 hyper 212 to keep it cool, whereas £59 for the 860K and £60+ to keep it cool, may aswell just opt for the 4130.

Other than that if your not overclocking, and want a budget chip with mid performance utilising 4 cores which can run some games the G3258 cant run good price for a good chip. Hot

Yeah there's no point in spending money on aftermarket cooling for this. It can reach 4.4-4.5Ghz, which is 10% - not worth the cost of the cooler. Whereas the G3258 also reaches that speed, but that's a 40% overclock.

I've got a 760k, which will happily sit at 4.5ghz all day with a 212 evo and from the limited reviews I've seen the stronger steamroller cores of the 860k are an improvement. It's a balancing act of getting more performance without getting to the stage where you might as well have bought a better CPU in the first place. Nice price, good find OP :)
