My mam uses one of these now instead of the 80 year old cast iron bakestones she's got. Made bakestones (welshcakes) last night on one. It's the Lidl/Aldi version which is exactly the same as this. Of all the stays-under-the-sink kitchen nonsenses I've seen this is pretty good.

Tbh I would buy a halogen oven for this price. Far more versatile and almost half the power

They're not comparable. That's like saying you want a saucepan but bought a kettle.

I have the XL version of this and used it Friday evening to make Okonomiyaki. It's really handy and convenient to make several flat dishes at once, okonomiyaki and omelettes or even steak or teppanyaki.
Good deal.

Can you make me some Okonomiyaki please. :D Super yummy.
not a great deal as this is £23.99 on andrew james website with free delivery and 2 year warranty buy the xl anyway cos its a bigger and you get more on it

forgot to mention, these make lovely frozen yoghurt

I'm confused. Does this freeze the ice cream or does it have to go in the freezer? I Google the spec and there are no power ratings so I just don't know what it actually does.

If this is anything like others at the same price, the bowl is frozen by leaving in your freezer for a day or so, the ice cream is made by putting the ingredients in the frozen bowl and a whisk slowly beats the mixture. you then put the semi frozen mixture into another bowl and pop it into your freezer.
the Andrew James Ice Cream, Sorbet and Frozen Yoghurt Machine, have a removable bowl which needs hours of pre-freezing before use.

I think I will stick to IT. Much simpler

Well I thought it seemed like an ok price so shared it on here in case it was useful to someone. No need to be a dick about it. Just don't order one. Simples.
avoid Andrew James at all costs! terrible customer service. everything seems to break and the warranty is a sham.

Can anyone tell me through personal experience what is better for pizza, a cast iron 'stone' or a traditional stone pizza stone?
Been making my own pizzas & they're decent but cannot get the thin base cooked perfectly using standard pizza trays.
A slab of (I use 6mm) steel is best for crisp bottoms Neopolitan style pizzas. Steel has better thermal properties for pizza than stone or iron. Dont oil it though that essentially will fry your pizza. You are trying to replicate the furnace temperatures of a pizza oven at home. You probably cant do this at home so usually the best way is to cook the top and bottom of the pizza using two different methods.

I cook a couple of dozen pizza's on a steel every day, the steel is on the gas hob as hot as I can get it. Then after 90 seconds I transfer it to the grill for another 90 secs and it is done. You could use iron pans or skillets also, but the ultimate is steel.

Another method would be to to use the steel in the top of your oven, especially if you have a broiler/or grill in the roof of the oven. Good youtube vid to watch is the pizza pilgrims using this method.
hmm pizza..

Been making my own pizzas & they're decent but cannot get the thin base cooked perfectly using standard pizza trays.

ive been using an iron pan (from home bargains for 3.99) .. you heat the lightly oiled pan on medium setting - on a gas cooker - dont get it overly hot! .. add the pizza base , take pan off the heat whilst you put toppings on (the base is cooking) then pop into oven at highest setting .

makes fantastic pizzas. better than any ceramic/stone - ive tried.

this iron 'stone' will do the same but heat it in the oven before adding the pizza.

Ace, I'll give it a try then, thanks.

Had one, bought for a tenner years ago. Violently hot (as its supposed to be). Hard not to incinerate things.. Causes large amounts of smoke. Sets fire alarms off..
Went in the bin.
It's got a temperature dial and goes from screaming hot to warm. My mother uses hers to make bakestones / welshcakes. Bacon on it is amazing because you can get it so hot the bacon screeches and you don't have to use any oil.

Never use any oil frying bacon. It is fatty as it is - guilty pleasure!

I've been thinking of getting something like this for when I stay away in hotels!
This could work!

I can't blame you. We went to our hotels with our rice cooker and mini fridge... Just make sure it does not trigger the alarm!
this reminds me of the time i went to beni hana in london (ive also been to the one in SF). anyway, i saw dennis wise showing off with all his mates. what a t*t. and i support chelsea! :)

Good item if you want to make your own jerky
Have to agree with some of the above comments, it seems like a great idea but a real pain to clean for a few slices of something.
I've got this model, you won't get a better one for the price but it is a awkward to clean.

Ebay outlet site of andrew James is much better price . Go for the one with the extra bowl so that can be always in the freezer
We bought this for some inlaws. It wont churn icecream that is very thick.

Fruit, nuts or anything else in the icecream blocks the tiny gaps in the paddle and churning wont happen, it just pushes the icecream around.

You will only get 1 lot of icecream before you need to refreeze the bowl part and to get it cold takes ages.

Here is an opinion, if you want to make basic icecream, one where you do not even heat the eggs, just a basic milk + cream + banana *(watch for the fruit!) then this will do it. But then you can buy better icecream for the £24 and no effort!

If you want to make good ice-cream with bits and using a cook recipe then you need to let it cool and deal with the blocked paddle. In which case its worth paying for a self chilling bowl and a decent paddle.

This will mix a for around 16-20 mins on a cooked icecream recipe (after its been chilled) you will still need to beat it by hand after pouring in to containers for freezing.
shud really add £7.99 to title or at least in description

I was going to post this deal as I've just bought it through Ebay instead of Amazon. Why expired??
The £16.99 one looks OK. I take it that it uses mains power too? I wonder why the AJ one has so many more reviews? I might try the cheaper one but with the AJ one you get a recipe book and the ability to buy a spare freezer bowl so you can make larger batches.
You can get this from their eBay of outlet £24.99 delivered. Item number is 250872206213. On my mobile app so couldn't copy a web link.

I ordered an Andrew James hand mixer from them and the package and receipt showed it as coming from AJ direct.
http://charts.camelcamelcamel.com/uk/B003UFNJ1Y/new.png?force=1&zero=0&w=725&h=440&desired=false&legend=1&ilt=1&tp=all&fo=0&lang=en

Was looking at this, #1 seller on amazon, on Monday. As with most it's a pre-freeze where the bowl needs freezing for 8 to 12 hours and one guy says the bowl doesn't fit in his regular size freezer racks. The other type, compressor types, which do the freezing themselves in a jiffy relatively speaking meaning endless batches without waiting half a day for the freezer like VonShef start from £140+ which might pay for itself within a year. Measure your freezer shelves and get the pre-freeze bowl size before buying. Voting this a slushy hot.
There is another one listed here for 16.99 delivered from amazon now so cold.

Just looking for xmas presents good to get some opinions and to find better offers. :D
just quoting what was stated on amazon :|
Sorry, im a slight technophobe

aww dont take the comments to heart. it is difficult scoping a bargain as amazon do come up with some crap RRPs.

as said above check camelcamelcamel.co.uk (or come cant rmbr!) to see if it has been cheaper or not. also get urself on flubit, if u can wait a bit, gives u a cheaper price than amazon. not always worth it...but there u go

happy bargain hunting :D
