Its a cracking deal, not a xoom or iPad... but for £79.99 a quite well powered Android tablet!

There seems to be a lack of cheap tablets running ICS and with the Google Android Market / GPlay or whatever...

Mine is shipping tomorrow so ill update the post with a quick review... but i'm expecting that for 79.99 i'll get more value than I expect!

Seriously... who comes up with these OS names?

And I thought that UBUNTU was a stupid name!

google does and they are named after foods, eclair, froyo - frozen yoghurt, ice cream sandwich, the next os will be jelly something more than likely
#3
there seems to be something about naming technology after anything thats edible... maybe its a sign.

I really wish I didn't get the Disgo 6000 in the Best Buy closing down sale now - cheap Android tablets have really taken off in the last few months!

Darroch, best advise i can give you mate is to go to a pcworld or similar and have a play on the various OEM android tablets they sell, then have a play with an iPad and see if it lives up enough for her needs...

no real answer here... as everyones different. i personally own several tablets, but i judge them on different merits to most.

ALWAYS try it - I bought an Archos 70 online in December, and hate it - coming to an auction site soon... Doesn't help that the Blackberry Playbook is so cheap, especially as you can now use android apps, and the market.
#10
We got the Archos 70 (2.2) and they are great little tablets. Surf, youtube, BBCI Player, movies from the SD card and mp3s all play just fine and the range of the wifi is excellent. I assume this will be just as good if not better although it does say in the gumph that there is a problem with iplayer at the moment but will be fixed soon with a firmware update.
#11
Thanks italoarmstrong, it's Darroch's wife he is working away ATM just looking for something for her to surf the web, listen to music basically what she does on her laptop you know what teenagers are like they want to keep up to date with everything!!! i trust your judgement dont want it to expire and i miss out seems a good price or could you recommend anything else?

If someone from Futeko is reading this, can you say if you will put an updated Clean ROM on the T01 or will it ship with the stock Eken Rom?

I have no Idea what you just said.

For 80.00, but cant see they are going to be the next best thing. Just seems like the cheap Hong Kong ones off ebay, but sold in the UK.
#15
These are much better than the cheap Chinese eBay jobbys... This has a cortex a8 design CPU... That FYI is the same as the iPad in architecture. It's just an oem manufacturer and probably plastic rather than unibody. So components will be cheap... But performance should be there....
#16
Darroch's wife... I'd say these tablets are more for gadget loving folk rather than Teenage daughters.. Maybe look at the blackberry play book.. Probably similar to this but branded, so she'll know what it is, those retail for £169 now

If she wants a tablet to do things with this will probably be fine. If she wants an iPad because it is an iPad, then the new iPad is the only thing that will satisfy, and that only until the next, newer one comes out.

This one seems to have the spec, capacitive screen, webcam, latest Android version, but hard to tell the quality. It is only a 7 inch screen though.

how much RAM?
anything less than 512Mb will make this slow.

I agree with LongPockets... If she wants an iPad she won't want this.. But if in the market for a generic tablet, this is probably it at a cost:value ratio
#21
As per the description.. 512mb, ICS is more GPU dependent though

How would this compare to the Ainol novo 7 Aurora coming out soon? I'm assuming the aurora is better? Looking to get a tablet in the next couple of weeks, and i've been thinking the aurora will be my best bet, but this does look good?

hmm, 1.2 gig, 8 gig OB memory and 1gig ram, and IPS screen...aurora wins i think?
Yes, i have just replied to myself.

Allwinner is single core? Dual core? I assumed it was dual, but some sources are saying single...

Dunno if you've noticed, but the desserts used also indicate the version number. In order of release:

A - Android
B - ?
C - Cupcake
D - Donut
E - Eclair
F - Froyo
G - Gingerbread
H - Honeycomb
I - Ice-Cream Sandwich
J - Presumed to be Jellly Bean.

@darroch, looks a pretty good spec for the money, for me this would be the perfect prezzy for a daughter, stick angry birds, birzzle, etc on it & enjoy the hours of silence!
I'm tempted myself but need to save a few quid for other stuff. Got an archos 70 at Christmas myself, took it back within a week, rubbish spec & a waste of money, this one looks a better spec & for less money.

Can anyone help?? I have a 6 year old who wants netbook/laptop - something for him to go online and play some games and do some homework. Would this be ok for him? I dont want to spend alot of money incase he breaks it etc. Advise would be much appreciated.
#38
Pretty nice features. You can't go wrong with those features for 80 quid! Would probably be plasticky and look real cheap, but if you are so particular about looks you've got the potential to be an apple fanboy. So better save up for an iPad. :p

It would be okay, but tabs are rather fragile. A 6 year old will definitely drop it a few times and I'm not sure it will withstand the onslaught. IMO you'd be better off getting a netbook with a proper warranty/accident cover.
