Android 4.0 ICS Smart TV Nertwork Media Player Only 57.99 Delivered @ Futeko

bp4917bp4917

Brilliant price for Android on your TV

Convert your TV into a Smart TV

Connects to the HDMI port of any regular TV (even your 5-year-old TV) and converts it into a Smart TV. It's basically a fully functioning computer which runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) much like today's latest smartphones. The processing power will allow you to display Android on your TV turning it into a mega-sized tablet (just imagine a 50 inch iPad). You can download apps from the Google Play Store to stream videos, play games, connect with your friends on Facebook, catch up on news, do some work or simply surf the web. You can even attach a video camera to do Skype video-calls… Yes, all that on your TV!

UPDATE 26-JUN: More stock is due to be ready for despatch on 4-JULY. We are now accepting pre-orders for this batch.

I'm running an Android TV box. Not this one but one with Android 2.3. It displays everything at 1920 x 1080p via HDMI and runs many Android applications. I paid £42 on eBay (price was delivered from China - took 5 days to arrive). I've attached a wireless keyboard/mouse which auto installed. It's about as fast as my Android 2.3 phone for displaying Apps. It runs Flash. It's cheap and fun at a tiny fraction of a Tablets price. So I consider it to be another way to access 'content' and not a Pc, or a tablet. In my view its decent quality at a reasonable price. But would I pay almost £60? Probably not.

I also have a Raspberry Pi and you shouldn't even consider it as a competitor. The Android TV is at least 10x as fast as the Raspberry Pi for displaying webpages but isn't as good for other uses (for example the Raspberry Pi may eventually run XBMC). At this time the Android TV has access to Google Play and will run many (but not all) Apps. Raspberry Pi runs a version of Debian and therefore is running full applications and not Apps. It's horses for courses.

I'd be tempted by one of these if Netflix had HD in their app but currently they don't. Would make a great media box otherwise.

Smart idea, it might take a gen or 2 to perfect (or a software update or 2) but it's pretty obvious that there's a big market for making 'dumb TV's' smart.
That & the way it looks like Android is the choice for some to go smart anyway & I'd expect this to have a future.

I think this is pretty good!

You can hook it up with your NON internet TV and enable a lot of Internet TV features
You can use it as DLNA device
You can use it as torrent server
You can use it as in junction with your other android handheld to stream all your pictures from your mobile phone to your TV and play your videos through this device and control it remotely

For the price it is pretty good!
I wont be buying one as I can do all things I want from my HTPC and android mobile phone setup.

This is a very cheap and practical solution.

I was looking at getting an mk802 but if this does the same thing & includes a remote it looks better.
I take it there'd be no problems running iplayer, 4od, itvplayer etc?

Anyone know is it can run skype with external camera with mic.

sooo tempted but that 512mb stops me from buying. This is everything i am looking for in a device at the mo but i know i'll regret buying it. It'll work but i imagine its gonna be slow as hell.

I was gonna get a raspberry pi but been waiting on order for so long, that when I saw all these new android devices I though I'll give em a go. They have made a fair few version of Linux that run on the .mk802 so ordered one of them a 1.gb version from Lightake for £53 plus possible import tax but at this price sent think you cant argue. Saw all the tablets at not far from same price but thought a lot the cheap Chinese screens might not be the best so why pay more for something that may break and then I can't use at all. Be loads these out soon and can see some good software possibilities. For that it is and what it can do for all the people out there that want to stream watch xvids and bit web browsing it's a good price!

If I get this and download the slingplayer app from android matket does that effectively turn this into a slingcatcher - ie view my slingbox on different tv's within my household?

I have a WD TV Live box (Gen 3) which I paid £78.99 for and has to be the worst tech purchase I've made in many years. This box is fantastic and wish I had bought it instead. I would also say this is even more capable than a rooted Apple TV by big margin. Voted hot

bought the daughter a cheap Android pad from Futeko the Eken T01 which runs ICS and has 512mb of ram and its fine i tried it today with a 1080p movie on a big screen and it played it back without any stuttering or anything perfectly so this little box should be fine. me personally i would put the extra if you want a great streamer and get the WD live streaming as that has Netflix in HD and iPlayer and is only around £15 more and is head and shoulders better than this. I have Futeko's top streamer the Himedia 900b which is 3D with Android on as a dual boot and the Android is ****, control with a mouse and keyboard of a OS that was designed for touch is ****.

Nice alternative to a WDTV streamer (think they go for around £70) wouldn't pay much more than this though. There's tonnes of these kind of devices on Dealextreme by the way, worth a look you might be able to find a better deal
