I have poweramp, one problem I have is when on holiday with no internet connection is poweramp checks to ensure app is licenced, when it cant verify this it will not work. Not much good when you want to listen to some music when yo are abroad. Going to give this a try

This is one of the oldest and top players. I have used most other players mentioned above. Poweramp is good but if not on Wi-Fi, you'll never know when the license check by the paranoid dev strikes really. He does not so much updates, neutron player is by him too and same problems will be there as he moves on. Another good one is JetAudio plus paid version. What do all these have in common for me to use? They let me list music not by confusing playlist systems or whatever weird algorithm listing hundreds and thousands of albums & songs. They let me set a folder on my SD card (0MP3) as my music folder to show and start with at launch, then each artist or genre has a folder then inside each artist folder, each album has a folder.

The above mentioned plus this PlayerPro let you do that. In menu button, settings, music library, music folder: pop-up box appears & click top check box then navigate to your music folder and go inside and set it.

To browse by folder, or any other playlist, at homepage on launch, swipe right, you'll see under browser categories: browse by folder, and the rest.

In settings, look and feel, choose to download more skins, a few dark ones are nice like Carbon, kk, iOS.

For browse by folder default is list but for other playlists it's the bigger horrible "grid" look which is icon size. To change the other browser types icons grid to list, in settings, BROWSERS, click on LAYOUT for each browser type, change to list. Gives you much more on screen acreage than grid. OF course browse by folder is always list as said.

When you click on download more skins as mentioned above, you'll see DSP pack by the dev too, install it as improves quality and is free.

Has widgets too. From many players I've used, this playerpro, poweramp and jetaudio plus are the ones I use regularly. My advice, buy it while it's cheap for a short while. Google subsidises these sales of big names, might not be this cheap again. Poweramp dev designed and coded his app based on this good old PlayerPro which has a free version too but I think it's got ads. This is the original and probably still the best. Get it.

I recently migrated to GoneMad having used PowerAMP for about a year, no reason, just fancied a change. For 10p (of survey earned Play credit) I think I'll give this a go now ;)

Thanks OP!

Poweramp needs data Conection for the first 24hours after purchase only. It so it can look at the album art. I use it on a old phone as a mp3 player with no data conection as I don't have a sim fitted. I use wifi though, when at home.

Downloaded the trial version to try this out. I like what I see so far, but wondering if the player has support to access NAS devices?

Very likely to buy this as it is a very good looking app and for 10p, you can't really complain.

Interested in that.

The thing I don't like about Poweramp is that the songs you've "enqueued"stick around. I want the queue to have disappeared after the songs i've enqueued have been played

Worth a punt for 10p. Heat added.

excellent player, very similar to the eleven player for cyanogen which stopped working on my phone so this is an ideal replacement. I hated poweramp the look and feel of it is awful IMO.
I know it's only 10p but you can download cyan apps then install eleven player from there if you want a very similar app for free ;)
#13
Stick to Poweramp, it organises your albums better - Half of my albums are split into their songs and not grouped together in one list! Got refunded even though it was only 10p. Cold from me i'm afraid.
#14
Just tried it, not even worth 10p! Sticking to poweramp
#15
It still uses the Android framework for playback. So it doesn't sound any different from using Google Music.

I faced this issue as well, if you have root and use Greenify, Amplify or a similar app then this is the cause.

Do not put to sleep or disable the PowerAMP Pro unlocker as it'll cause issue and ask you to reinstall etc.

Of course if you do not use any of the above then it's just a fault with PA :).

Also wondering if PowerAmp is still the king? I'm out of the loop.

Imo better than poweramp.

one of my main issues with poweramp too. love it, but certain things just arent very intuitive.

for 10p, i'm giving this one a go...

That's funny. I've got the opposite problem because Poweramp doesn't appear to support my 'Album Artist' tags (which makes it pretty much unusable to me right now). PlayerPro has organised mine much better.
#21
Quick question, I use Google Play so is there any point going for this?

I find myself swapping between Poweramp and Playerpro from time to time I find Playerpro is easier and more intuitive to navigate, but I like a pretty homescreen widget and Poweramps is better.

Just bought thanks OP

Does Poweramp play the music back in a different way as I know it sounds a lot better to me than other players I've tried?

Currently using Rocketplayer, anyone able to compare?

Phonograph better! FREE too.

Is it me or music you purchase from itunes (.m4a) and no matter what ID editing software you use to edit the meta data, once you transfer your music on to your Google mobile it places the song in incorrect order. Every music app does this apart from Sony Music.

No problems with MP3.

the speakers your using will determine the quality of the sound, that and the source tracks quality. You can mess about with the equaliser settings on the apps to make it a but better but the app itself just plays the track like any other......

is it able to play flac files?

is it able to play flac files?

Good question. I have not thought to use anything other than VLC (which plays EVERYTHING) since, well, forever. That said, I do have a spare two shillings somewhere so shall try this out.

It plays flac m4a etc etc.

Problem with other free players is that in future they could ram loads of ads or pestering notifications or other strategies to monetise. With this, one of the best music players, you will get updates which are ad free etc.

Install the FREE DSP plugin after installing this too, as I said for more controls, it also increases the types of files it can play to over 30 lesser supported exotic filetypes, read desc. blurb:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tbig.playerpro.soundpack&hl=en_GB

Skins, search Play store app for "playerpro skin":

tried and bought quite a few media players - incl poweramp. But for some reason always go back to PlayerPro - love it! and it is flawless. They have also, in v3, introduced really nice skins for the player which makes it very customisable. And the free DSP pack already mentioned. No complaints at all of the player for audio (video .. another story).

Interestingly palyer pro has 100,000-500,000 downloads but poweramp has 1,000,000-5,000,000 (so 10 times more) .. go figure!

I use JetAudio over Poweramp, much cleaner and easy to navigate I find. Will give this a go though, always up to try something new.

I undrstand the point you are making, but I've seen paid apps with adverts too. You can't predict what these companies will do.

Hello Imagine S, I've been using "Music Folder Player" (Free) and it seems to play everything I've transferred from my Itunes music folder in the correct order.
I've forgotten which albums I've actually purchased from Itunes to check properly but everything I've tried has played properly and they are all .M4A files from when I ripped all my CD's.
