Got this yesterday & two previously, paid £50 for my first one, brill boxes with everything you need on & very easy to add other stuff with the help of you tube!

would rather get a better spec for the same money, as usual old spec, overpriced, but great reviews (cough) from amazon.

I suppose if you're paying a shade over £20 quid for a box, you can expect 1GB of RAM, but 2GB boxes aren't a huge amount more

I've searched kodi on gearbest resulting in 76 matches......could you please put me in the right direction of something with decent spec/good brand? Budget up to £70

Cheers

EDIT: I would like to future-proof, so hoping to get 4K, built-in WiFi and preferably having RCA (red/white) audio and optical out)

Look for latest & greatest S912 boxes. £5 less than your budget will bag you a rare 3GB RAM S912 box supplied ex-UK, although you need to consider if the additional £20 cost is worthwhile compared to the more common 2GB S912 option.
Examples 3GB RAM despatched ex-UK by foreign sellers: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191975973719 or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252579854695
Examples 2GB RAM despatched ex-UK by foreign sellers: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162237719339 or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131941889350
All possibly a few £s cheaper ex-China.

From Kodi Forum if that is the intended use. The slightly older S905 chipset is recommended more.
Any AMLogic S912 box running Android Marshmallow 6.0, like the Beelink GT1 as an example. Don't get hoodwinked by clever marketing and Tech specs people. Its been awarded a D by our very own @hdmkv. A D for Do Not Bother!
There is NO LibreELEC Kodi support for AML S912 devices either.

Along with that warning, those considering buying any dirt cheap, unsupported Android Kodi boxes need to Read This

While not tarring everything in Gearbest/Banggood and not even picking on them but including ebay into the mix and many others. Here is what I would be wishing from any box bought of any website. That a version or fork of Kodi/SPMC/MRMC from official sources will work and not some obscure non-official fork (Ie anything for a device with a RK SoC). Google is your friend in easily finding out spyware etc can be placed easily into Kodi/Kodi Addons. I'd be wanting to install myself to ensure the validity of what is on the device. Some do not contain the official play store and take you to one of their own, again we don't know what security goes into the checking of what these app may contain. The versions of the android OS may contain spyware and again I'd be looking to see if the source of the OS is readily available online and I'm able to place a rom of my choosing onto the device. But really as a general warning never buy with Kodi pre-installed or "fully loaded".

All in all and I wish I took my own advice now going back. Stop wasting money on cheap boxes. Personally I use mine everyday is £80 RRP really expensive for a device you may use everyday (AFTV2 as example). They are commonly discounted and even while I thought the Shield was overpriced at £150 I wish I'd bought one when they came out. Although it did pay off for myself when I bagged one for £85 few months back. A new Shield is in the pipeline, might it be a replacement device bringing the current one down, might it be another in the line-up at a different price point? Time will tell once released. New AFT stick is looming to the UK shortly with on paper twice the spec of the old, meant to be same price point as current if 4K not to your needs nor wired internet connections etc.

wetek play 2. best box I've owned, and worth the extra price. includes sat receiver so can run and record freesat channels. or you can get a freeview version. official sponsor of Kodi. official.sponsor of openelec. official netflix support, has all main types of drm support. I am impressed. s905x chip, 2gb of ram. Dolby digital support. if you want future proof it is pretty good, although wetek play 2s comes out next year, but likely to be twice the price.

Ty. I had seen them listed before but in all honesty I skipped past them my themself as didn't have the need for the sat tuner. Further digging around defo should have placed that onto the list also. Good value also. Ty again and good one to take my friend going about. He's all into the sat side of things and just spend nearly £160 on a 2nd hand box which reading the specs of this is similar but as you said not Kodi "supported".

If the S912 is too new and you want optical plus AV outputs, consider adding these S905x boxes to your shortlist: 1GB+8GB £22.99 Amazon fulfilled https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01J5DS068/ or 2GB+16GB £29.99 Amazon fulfilled https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01LQ6JHGY/ . You will probably need to buy optical and AV cable separately.
