**Noob Question Alert**

I'm currently 'working my notice' with Sky, so looking for an alternative source of TV channels. Is this type of product an option? Can I get a good selection of channels via one of these or are they more about PC like functionality through the TV?

Cheers!

The OP said:

and a guy on a forum who;s tried it said:
it works on my mk808.....sometimes.

I'd give it a while ...

These are currently no good for XBMC , as without hardware video decoding anything above standard definition will stutter. They will play HD videos fine in the standard video playing app though.

For XBMC you need one with an Amlogic 8726 chipset as only these have hardware video decoding in XBMC.
There is one for about £32 delivered ( from China) HERE

These also have the 'sync' issue but there's work on the firmware :

Dual core isn't always better. I have a single core uhost and it works very very well on stock ice cream sandwich

MK808 is meant to still have bad wifi so that aliexpress one looks best. Fast as a PC but you do supposedly get lip sync problems
LadyEleanor#11
That is if its an improved version as it misleadingly states..

More about PC-like functionality through the TV

remember you need to add duty/vat and duty/vat collection fee which is likely to be charged by the courier

these chinese SOC (in simple terms the processor) based devices are aweful for linux support

dual core A9 ARM devices are too slow IMHO for full fat GUI linux distros you need a quad core A9 based device really

the quadcore freescale imx6 based devices are nere now for <$90 (and prices always fall after the first month or two of launch) with SOC by freescale which has a great reputation for linux support (samsung quads are also out which again are far better supported linuxwise than the chinese SOC devices)

Well it finally arrived today and the kids have been playing Binweevils via the browser and youtube plus .mts files work well. No extra duty or other hidden costs involved. Overall not a bad product but the mini hdmi cable did not work but i had a mini to large hdmi adapter and that works flawlessly.
