Are these really a good idea?

false readings and all that ? as I guess anyone buying would be a worried mum ? go and see the mid wife and its free

not really it depends what reason your buying it for i think its a nice thing if you have children/partner ect who want to have a listen, it just depends if you worried its always best to talk to a midwife.

I can see this doing your head in with non stop checking every time the baby has a kip.

spend money on your kid when it arrives, & check ebay for used versions for a fiver! (probably)
such short span of use is it any more than a novelty?

these are absolutely brilliant do make you a little worried if cant find baby strait away but i loved mine even my little boy had a little listen to baby :)

also never go for the 'summer' doppler they are rubbish....

Borrowed one from a friend and must say it is nice to hear your babies' heart beat when you want. Also good for any grandparents to be.

I bought one on ebay for £20 they are very much in demand. Only thing is they don't work without the sonographer fluid which I think you can buy on amazon as well. I found this a godsend after two unsuccessful pregnancies I needed every reassurance I could get. There was a very clear heart beat after about 10 weeks although you need some practice to distinguish the baby's heartbeat from your own!

My thoughts exactly

Good price and a nice idea but i think i would have a tendency to panic more so if i didn't feel movement for a while when baby sleeping etc and then if this didn't pick up a heartbeat..... think less stressful not having hehe be checking for heartbeat the whole time! Heat added :3

We had one and was really nice to be able to hear baby , and also e-mail to far off relatives :) I initially had concerns about us checking and getting worried etc. But it just turned out to be something really nice and we didnt use it to "check" on him at all if anything it helped us bond with the wee guy before he arrived :)

Those who used it, how frequently did you use (like how many times in a week / day)? Is it harmful in any way to the baby?

I was pregnany with twins last year and "allowed" myself to use it once a week, it was useful for finding out where each baby was lying. I loved being able to use it for a quick check but would have seen my midwife if I was ever worried.

I have to admit I used it most days but stopped once I started feeling movements. My little boy also liked listening to the heartbeat and I think it helped him to accept there was a baby in there.
