I would have thought so, pretty useless deal unless you know anyone with an annual pass...cold.

This pass is great, we crammed in as many of the London attractions as we possibly could in one weekend and it would have cost more than the pass!! Thorpe park at the weekend

I don't have a pass to renew so this deal for new passes is good for me, cheers.

Hi again - yes I saw the 35% deal for those renewing the Merlin card. This 25% off is for new customers - the standard non-discounted card saves a decent amount for those who visit attractions more than 4 times a year - this extra saving means family days out can get even cheaper - watch out for a few restrictions (dates & venues)....but I think some genuine money can be saved....good luck

Yeah, my friend tried this - gave her husbands pass to her sister. Happened to get the gate where they checked the passes. They confiscated her pass and made her pay

Beware - the legoland website is only giving 25% this morning instead of 35%, chessington website was doing it correctly.

Deciding between them....how much extra is it if I wanted to go to Fright Night with my Merlin Pass....is it £5

Yeah it's an extra £5 for fright nights and the fireworks at Thorpe. I go premium, mainly because the parking is £3 a time there, and it's £5 at alton towers... The amount of time I used it for just that saves me a ton!

I get family of 3 pass, but thinking about upgrading one of them to premium so we can get the free parking this year. It's a joke that they make you pay, after what they charge for tickets! (_;)

I was planning on doing this as opposed to upgrading all of the family passes to premium. Has anyone phoned them up to ask if this is possible under the price for family and not based on the individual prices.

Also do you know if you have to use the passes stright away or is the first dCan I upgrade a Standard Merlin Annual Pass into a Premium Merlin Annual Pass?
I was planning on using it in May for the first time so would it run from then for a year?

From the FAQs page on their website:

Can I upgrade a Standard Merlin Annual Pass into a Premium Merlin Annual Pass?
A. Yes, you may upgrade the remaining time left on your Standard Merlin Annual Pass into a Premium Merlin Annual Pass for a flat fee of £35pp at any time during your 12 month membership. You will need to visit the attraction where you originally purchased your Standard Merlin Annual Pass to carry out the upgrade.

I'm confused, how is this a good deal at £99 when they are £84 on the Thorpe Park website, or £50 in clubcard vouchers?

Went to Thorpe Park yesterday, first time in many years, it was so busy. We queued for 8 hours and got on a total of 5 rides all day. That includes paying an extra £4.50 to fast track one of the rides. I wouldn't recommend bothering going unless you like queuing or you go on a rainy day when no ones there, or buy a full fast track ticket (£66 online!). We used a buy 1 get one free, I assume these aren't valid on the fast track tickets though.

£85.44pp for a family of 3, 4 or 5 on the Merlin site for the same. Personally, I agree with Snookums. They have increased prices, and reduced usage. Vote with your feet (or keyboard) and don't buy them. If everyone did the same, maybe they'd reduce the price and go back to free parking. Voting cold.
jcsymons
They will still swipe you out until your current annual pass runs out after that it is 2 quid a car, unless you have one of their premium passes
Flossie Teacake
We have standard Merlin passes which we bought with Tesco Clubcard vouchers. We bougt ours after the official cut-off date, and in fact they say 'parking not included' on them however they've swiped us out of the carpark without paying at Alton Towers (many times, we live 20 mins away so quite often pop there for a couple of hours in an afternoon), Warwick Castle and last week at Legoland too. If yours is marked 'no parking' it might be worth trying too. We always have the cash to pay if we need to, but like I said so far it's been OK!

Coincidentally I am thinking of getting 4 individual passes thru Tesco clubcard points.... (or I was until I saw this thread!!). That would mean £200 in Clubcard vouchers (for myself and my three kids). We live in West Yorks, so the nearest attractions are Lightwater Valley and Flamingo Land. In fact - must check that these are included in the Pass Attractions....

You can all tell I am a novice at this :)

I do know that if we did have cards we would try to use them to death to get our money's worth, but if Merlin are indeed "taking the mickey", then I might save the vouchers to get what can be up to 4x their value in some outlets.

ADVICE PLEASE!!!!!

(Mum going through extraordinarily long Easter School holidays that will span 4 weeks between 2 schools and running out of things to do with kids....!)

It is... but give us passholders a chance to moan and we'll grab it :)

Merlin alienated their 'loyal customers' with their t&c changes and crappy business decisions and I think they're gonna have a bit of a hit this year with the amount of people that won't bother to renew. Their loss though!
CyBerman
Isn't this deal supposed to be about the discounts which the card offers being available to all and sundry, rather than the cards themselves?
imiskeen
I don't blame you, I've been a merlin pass holder for the last four years but enough is enough. Ironically Merlin entertainment posted record profits in 2010 so it's not like they had to put prices up. It's purely a greed based decision. I will not be using them again, but then again, the uk parks do get a little tiresome after a while.

Next time that happens go to cust services at the park on your way out and complain about it.

Recently we travelled up from London and Thirteen wasn't working. When they eventually got it working late in the afternoon there was a 90 min queue so I complained that Thirteen was the main reason we'd come up, and the assistant gave me a priority pass for 6 rides (including thirteen) for 6 people for next time we come!!

And note I said 'priority pass', not 'fast-track', so you can jump the WHOLE queue and hop onto the ride through the exit - front seats all the way next time we go!! :-D

Thanks...hope this helps someone

BEWARE....ALTON TOWERS RIDES BROKE DOWN FREQUENTLY

We love theme parks and have visited them for many years....recently came back from a trip to Alton Towers and it was nothing short of a sham!! Every single ride with the exception of the runaway mine train broke down several times. Ok so we expected Thirteen to have some techical hitches being new....but it was a total joke!!! Whilst waiting in line Air, 13, Oblivion, Nemesis all broke down many times, Rita was barely running all day and even the rapids broke down on a boiling hot saturday.....it was a disgrace!! On returning I have spoken to others who had the same experience. Not sure if it is due to cutbacks in the maintenance budget or what but such a waste of a day...as it is the park is only open from 10-6pm (varies) not helped by spending unecessary hours in a queue for a ride that doesnt work.
Such a shame...it was such a sham!! :x

Yes I agree, if u have enough tesco clubcard points, then get if thru them. Otherwise its quite a good deal especially if you live in the south like I do! Im close to thorpe park, legoland and chessington so really good for us. Also London is really close so well worth it! Shame about not being able to use in london during August, but we will just visit the theme parks then instead :-)

Never seen them with 50% off that wud be fanatastic if they did that as were a family of 5!
tango42
Frustrating they are now adding the 'premium'. also non card holders are going to have to pay an EXTRA £2 for parking!!! Really cant understand their reasoning for not being able to use london attractions in august, I know its going to be more busy, but seriously, annual pass, should be annual pass. ALSO there have been 50% offers (other than the tesco clubcard option) so if your not in a rush, hold on, if you want one now, then great deal :)

We bought 2 of our 3 passes using Tesco points last year. However will just renew them for £225 cash as i believe you cannot use vouchers to renew.Would be happy if people know any better, although dont seem to have that many this year.

Have to add that with so many 2 for 1 offers for the parks you do need to work out how much saving can be made. I love the fact that theres no queue to start the day exchanging vouchers. On opening for Saw at Thorpe Park the queue must have been an hour just at the ticket booth.
Ellibe
OP should probably change the title to family pass -we got ours using tesco vouchers, but you can still save 10% buying online at http://www.annual-pass.com/.
Family of 4 was only a couple of quid more each than the original post
Chester Tay
This price only applies when there are 5 or more of you buying?
Ellibe
Definitely recommend this pass - for a family of 5 we have saved loads, - the best thing knowing you can return again & again, and do the rides etc you missed this time, and not have to battle the long queues to make the most of the day.

I recently wrote to the London Eye accessibility email address to enquire about using my clubcard vouchers to get Merlin passes for the family, including one carers pass as our son receives DLA.. Everywhere else we go we get a carers ticket, cinema, National Trust, other attractions etc... I also enquired on how we could reserve a place in the queue (flight I think they call it)..
The reply was rather dissapointing.. Not only were carers passes not allowed with Tesco vouchers (as they are already discounted), but Merlin passes do not entitle you to book a flight.. This exludes us from even going to the London Eye as my son certainly would not be able to queue for more than 10 minutes..

Anyone know if this information is correct and advise how we might be able to arrange a timed visit to the London Eye?

thanks.. P
Romi
You may appreciate following info, please be aware of the restrictions

exclusions: No entry during the month of August at London Eye, Madame Tussauds London, London Dungeon and SEA LIFE London Aquarium. No entry during Fright Nights at THORPE PARK (£5 entry fee applies). No entry on 14th February at the London Eye. No entry on 31st October at the London Eye and The London Dungeon.

Because I thought these restrictions were OTT I complained to Merlin and now  they have two cards
A standard Merlin pass and A Premium Merlin pass which has no restrictions but they have set the price at £200 :whistling: for the premium.

Oh yes you were! :w00t::w00t:

Hot from me.... I used my Merlin passes last Saturday for a 2h 45m visit to Thorpe Park. I certainly wouldn't have done that at park entrance prices!

you travelled all that way for a few hours  are you mad?
we're off to legoland in a few weeks for my son's birthday & have just received our second merlin pass voucher from tesco so 2 adults & 2 kids covered with 2 tesco merlin vouchers :-D

:lol: there's alway one :whistling::roll:

Well yeah it's not £37.50 of cash, it's £37.50 of my very limited supply of tesco clubcard vouchers (I don't have many left right now) which I have a large choice of options to use where they are worth double or quadruple the value. £37.50 cash for an annual pass is great value, but I could spend that many tesco vouchers on £150 of restaurant food, £75 of wine, £75 of phone credit...

Bad luck - maybe it's a different staff member today. It was Salli (according to my till receipt) who helped me yesterday and she was lovely. Very friendly and chatty
