Dead link, looks like this has expired.
For shorter walks the more penny pinching among us can head to streetmap.co.uk and use the 'large map' icon then with a bit of faffing (iPads work well) you can print a full A4 of the map with no borders. It uses OS maps down to footpath level. On the move you can use the 'Where am I' button for a GPS fix.

Or use openstreetmap.org which also has detail right down to every right of way and has a 'centre map at where I am' to use with GPS.

The Eldorado for me would be to have access to full footpath level OS route planning, with indicated difficulty level (so the Mrs does not come out with too-dainty shoes). I suspect this would be an expensive option but will have a look at Anquet thanks OP.

Cheers OP. Worth a try for free, even though I have plenty of other mapping software :)
You're welcome.
Out of interest what else do you use and for what purpose?

I use the OS maps app with a subscription (bought with Tesco vouchers) which is great for printing maps and finding walks which can then be followed on phone. I have Memory map with a 3rd party map addon but find that a real pain to use as it constantly seems to be checking my license and refusing me access if there is no phone signal.
Thanks Op as ever another quality deal. Heat added.

I thought they were. I've only bought one so far, but will probably need more. So if you can provide an alternative, cheaper source for digital OS maps I'd appreciate it.

Ah, I wasn't looking at the digital ones. The actual printed maps aren't cheap though.

I've been buying from A-Z maps.

Aren't they talking about making all OS maps public domain?.

That depends on who you mean by they. It certainly won't be the ordnance survey.

Aren't they talking about making all OS maps public domain? If so, no wonder the company is trying to flog them off quick.

I doubt that this will happen now with the squeeze on public finances. This is currently the cheapest way to get OS map data - especially the OS 25000 information needed for accurate use of GPS navigation when walking.
