AntiVirus PRO Android Security £3.99 @ Google Play

£3.99 @ Google play
This is one of the lowest prices you will get this app for also it is made by AVG. This is usually i think £5.99 or more!

£3.99 for something that isn't needed and will likely slow your phone down! cold from me.

Wot he said above! I'm sure this is a deal for this particular software but if you really must have this bloatware on your phone there are cheaper/free alternatives available. However it really isn't needed unless your phone is rooted and you're using 3rd party app stores or sideloading dodgy/cracked software.

This app has been reported to drain your battery fast.

Here's a better solution, which is free, wont drain your battery life and won't infect your system: Do, not, untick, the "Unknown Sources” and "Verify Apps" in the settings unless you know what you're doing!!

Thanks noiren for your advice.
I have just checked my settings as per your recommendation. Seems like good practise.

Of course, Google Play could never be compromised or your OS can't have a bug...

Complacency is the one of the biggest factors in your device getting attacked.

if I felt I had to worry enough to install some bloated, intrusive antivirus on my phone then I'd switch platforms. You're right about complacency: be complacent about the apps you install and you're at risk; look whose apps you're downloading and sense if they might be a bit iffy and you'll be fine.

I also note this app doesn't claim to stop the bug anyway.
