Director Sacha Gervasi first saw Canadian metal band Anvil as a schoolboy in September 1982. He was so enamored with their "speed metal intensity", he ran away to become a roadie on their Forged In Fire and Backwaxed tours. When he reconnected with the band via the Internet in 2005, he was amazed to discover they were still rocking and decided to film a valentine to these guys who never gave up chasing their dream.
The film follows the band on a disastrous European tour, filmed in November 2005 and June 2006, and the recording sessions of This Is Thirteen in England. It includes affectionate testimonials on the band from Lemmy of Motörhead, Lars Ulrich of Metallica and Slash of Guns N' Roses.
