Anywhere On Northern Rail For £10.00

Here's a great offer for rail users in the North; from February 28 till March 26 you can go anywhere on the Northern Rail network for £10 adult, £5 child.

However, Northern Rail have frustratingly decided that you can only take advantage of the offer by collecting two tokens from local Lancashire papers published by Johnstone Press - see link for details of which ones,

Handy if you can take advantage of it though.

Incidentally, if any kind person in the Lancs area could pick up a few tokens for me from the listed papers, please PM. I'm happy to pay the cost of any papers and postage.

I use Northern Rail every day to get to work. Given the state of the filthy, outdated and overcrowded trains, let alone the late/cancelled services, they should be paying me to travel! (Darwen to Manchester)

I don't disagree that Northern's commuter trains leave a lot to be desired, but they also have some really nice scenic routes across their network, such as the Settle to Carlisle route or the Cumbrian Coast. Gotta be worht a tenner to do one of those journeys, surely, when the normal price is around £25?

Northern Rails commuter trains are dirty, broken and always overcrowded... At least the ones I ride are. If I didn't have to get to work daily I would avoid them like the plague. £10 is a lot of money to sit in a smelly, dirty carriage.

Still - given the regular price it can only be a deal.

Cos s/he's a southerner so northern is pointless for em. Heat from me as you can just get it for a decent day trip somewhere.

Seems they are the same all over then. I use the Morpeth->Newcastle train most days and although they don't get overcrowded they are really old, filthy trains. They look like some out of commission trains from the 70's most of the time.
You can guarantee that there will be at least 1 cancellation per week on the homebound train (always the same train 17:50 one) but they never tell you about it. You only find out when the thing doesn't arrive so you have to wait an extra 40 minutes on the next one. Never any apologies either.

Cold for me, trains are a disgrace most of the time I use em and invariably they seem to have loads of carriages on when it's quiet and saturday evening around 5pm when everyone is coming back from Meadowhell there is usually only 1 or 2 carriages so everyone is crammed on.
