Welcome to HUKD, great first post, beat me to posting this, ordered, will kick start the window case mod I have been intending to do for a long while.
#2
was gna post but didnt rli think it was all that great
#3
it says max order is two
#4
i just orderd 2, been looking for a reason to buy a new case and do a bit of upgrading and this is a bargain. gonna get other people to sign up to order me some
#5
Considering the cheapest you can get cathode tubes for is 2.50-3.00 (from suppliers without postage) then to me this is a bargain, you wouldnt need more than two of these for a side window mod, 2.99 delivered for two of these is great.
#6
stupid question but how is this attached to the power -- sorry i have a mac so thinking of another way to use these like background lighting behind the monitor or something like that.

Buy a PC :p Far more customisable ;-)

haha very funny ... no going back for me i'm afraid. besides we use macs at the office.

Seriously though, Cathodes come with an inverter a 12v inverter which is then attached to a 4 pin molex connectionhttp://z.about.com/d/compreviews/1/0/V/1/DIY-CCFL13.jpg

If you are good with electrics I am sure you could easily wire up a positive/negative connection from a molex connector bought from maplins or ebay to a 12v DC adaptor quite easily and hang these behind your monitor easily enough.
#10
got it thanks for the picture -- just wasnt clear from the item description/photo.

Hey kippy I am just too damn knowledgeable ;-) lookie here as I mentioned, and a mac forum (apart from its US and talking about 110v instead of 240V but my rule applies as above :D

Q) I don’t have a window on my case to show off the insides of my pc what can I do.

A/ you could buy a new case but if you are on a limited budget may we suggest one of these.

You just have to love their soh! lol

You need an inverter between the cathodes and psu, this is a **** deal looking at those cathodes, would not trust those on my setup. Have a look on ebay, this deal is ****.

WTF? 2 free Cathode tubes is sh*t?, yes you need an inverter between a cathode and a PSU, these are retail boxed and although it doesn't state, I would find it hard to believe that they don't actually come supplied with the inverter to step down to 12v. So whats you Ebay point? Pay 8 quid on Ebay for two or pay 2.99 for two here?!

just ordered 2 and i wonder what size they are hmm
#16
only blue so not really that good unless you want blue i dont. I want dark green everyone has blue so your case wont be any different to 1000's of others it seems to me that this site has nothing but rubbish and has done since its launch.

They usually come in 2 sizes a 12inch and a 4inch these will be the 12 i should think as everyone tends to buy the bigger size as the 4inch is just as expensive the only reason to get the 4 is if you have a special place for it and the 12 is to big.

Does anyone know if you can buy these lamps with a normal adapter plug? I'm interested in putting some behind my aquariums :]

a 12v power supply will be fine which you can get from maplins but will it be worth it for you if you got to buy a power supply.

i will be using it for the room and not for the pc lol mood lighting

works out at half price and free postage compared to above shops... interesting that they list this as having a voice sensor ? ?

If you want to run this outside of a computer and don't fancy rewiring things (which is not really that difficult anyway imo), then this AC-Molex adapter might be your answer.
#22
WELL WOT CAN I SAY its not free cuz your paying the postage.... voted cold as its a useless item
#23
I can't be the only person who saw the title, read all the replies so far, and still had no idea whatsoever what the item for sale was.

To save others actually clicking onto the site, here's what it says on the page:

Q) WTF is a cold cathode Light?

A/ A Cold cathode light is like a neon light, which lights up your PC without generating excess heat. It can be used inside the computer case without significantly raising the temperature. This ultra-bright cold cathode adds style to your windowed case with an assortment of vibrant colors. Bring life to your PC Moods instantly.

(errr..that clears it up then )

You are clueless if you think this is a **** deal........:x

They will come with an inverter for each tube....

I've had these in my old PC for years without any problems and getting 2 for £2.99 is a great deal and not beaten anywhere else!!!!!!:w00t:

interesting - worth noting that these run on 12v, as does your car and motorbike/scooter, I fitted a pair underneath my old motorbike (with cable ties), lasted the winter and looked damned cool, they died in the end (not designed for outdoors/flying stones) but these look a little tougher, think I'm going to chance it because they're handy little things.

Some one mentioned inverters - cold cathode tubes require a higher than normal voltage, so they normally have an external inverter to change 12v to high voltage - it looks to me as if these have built in inverters, it says input voltage 12v, lamp voltage 310v, and they have a big dark section at the bottom, so reckon these are as easy as plugging in to a 12v supply!

**edit BLAST! Only ordered one accidentally... Doh!

I can't beleive people are doing this deal down it's 2 free lights from a known computer company (AOpen). Sheesh some people! :o

No problem , just cut a ruddy big hole in the side with a drill and use some tin snips to enlarge .Either cut it round or square and cover with cling film . Looks smashing with your long skinny light bulb inside .

I still not yet receive it. Anyone know how long it take for delivery?
