368°Bit of an odd one (quite specific but thought I'd share).
I purchased APB (All Points Bulletin) for the PC a few months ago. The company behind it went bust and the game shut down.
I purchased it from Steam but they were unable to offer a refund, so spotted a forum thread saying people had contacted EA directly and were being offered a current game to download for free! All they needed was the key and a screen grab of the game in my Steam loader.
Pushed my luck as didn't really see anything I liked, and they game me a 25% off voucher to use in the future - but could of had any of the current games for free (Battlefield Bad Company 2, Mass Effect 2 etc).
Good luck!

Tabula Risa for me.
Heat added so this gets more attention - there will be plenty of people affected by this, and they might as well get something out of it.
Also isn't 25% off a future game worth much less than a free current game let alone a proper cash refund?
Anyway, this is a lesson about why it's important for a game to have third-party servers.
Did it work properly for anyone who tried it in the nanosecond it was live? We had epic problems with it stuttering, despite exceeding all minimum requirements.

Impressed they gave me anything really (considering I purchased it from Steam). Contacted them via the support system to complain (wasn't public knowledge about this "offer") but got a nice mail back saying I could have a free digital game - but only choose one that was currently available, not a pre-release title (such as MoH). The Steam forums are telling a similar story (free game or coupon code).
Sure if you haven't got Battlefield Bad Company 2 or Mass Effect 2, this is a great deal! As I've already got both I was a bit gutted ...but still £10-12 off a future release is better than a kick in the joystick!
I can use the voucher towards the new Need for Speed game, Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam or Crysis 2 when they come out. Maybe try and use some Cokezone vouchers and the HotUKDeals 20% code for an uber discount.
You could wait a couple of weeks and try and contact them when MoH is out, maybe they'll give you a free copy ...just maybe.

shame really could have a been better game
Shame though, 200 people got laid off and some have to return to their home countries as far like China for example.
One thing that I hated about the game was the fact there was no story, nothing to draw you in

And FWIW I loved APB. Was fun with a capital F. No messing about levelling your character by killing bunny rabbits for three weeks. It was straight in, and straight to the action.
Not at all relevent here. You do know this game is an MMO right.
Just e-mailed via the support side and said to them "The game has shut down and Steam can't give me a refund. Are you able to help?" I gave the key and a screen grab of my Steam window (showing APB). Guess if bought retail, a scan of the receipt and the CD key would be enough as proof of purchase.
I just selected a random game (think it was Bundled Software > EA Classics). It all goes to the same customer services team. I think you have to raise a ticket/incident through this system. It's a bit of a farce but they were quick to respond.
