**There's suggestions in the thread that this is the TWO-DISC Collector's Edition, rather than the single-disc edition pictured on the HMV website. Either way, absolute bargain!!**

HMV have further reduced the price of their Steelbook Edition of Apocalypse Now from £6.99 (previously posted here) to just £5.99. Delivery is free of charge. Steelbook means that it comes in a nice, shiny metal case.

THE COMPLETE DOSSIER DUAL FEATURE
APOCALYPSE NOW (1979) AND APOCALYPSE NOW REDUX (2001).

Special Features

* Audio Commentary For Both Films By Francis Coppola.
* Exclusive Featurettes.
* 12 Never-Before-Seen Segments From The Cutting Room Floor.
* Apocalypse Then And Now.

Francis Ford Coppola's Vietnam epic, loosely based on HEART OF DARKNESS by Joseph Conrad, tells the story of Captain Willard (Martin Sheen), a special agent sent into Cambodia to assassinate an errant American colonel (Marlon Brando). Willard is assigned a navy patrol boat operated by Chief (Albert Hall) and three hapless soldiers (Frederic Forrest, Sam Bottoms, and Larry Fishburne). They are escorted on part of their journey by an air cavalry unit led by Lt. Colonel Kilgore (Robert Duvall), a gung-ho commander with a love of Wagner, surfing, and napalm. After witnessing a surreal USO show featuring Playboy playmates and an anarchic battle with the Viet Cong at a bridge, Willard reaches Colonel Kurtz's compound. A crazed photo journalist and Kurtz groupie (Dennis Hopper) welcomes the crew, and Willard begins to question his orders to 'terminate the colonel's command.'

The gruelling production and Coppola's insistence on authenticity led to vast budget overruns and physical and emotional breakdowns, as detailed in the fascinating documentary HEARTS OF DARKNESS shot by Coppola's wife, Eleanor. Considered to be one of the best war movies of all time, APOCALYPSE NOW features incredible performances (especially those of Sheen, Brando and a then 14-year-old Fishburne) and beautifully chaotic visuals (courtesy of renowned cinematographer Vittorio Storao) that make it an absolute must-see.

Does anyone know if this is the same as the one with both films in, i.e. the Redux and original like the one with the black cover? Also, you sure it's 2 Discs, it says one on the information page?

Apologies, it does seem to be the 1-disc edition. It does indeed contain both films.

I've done some digging around and found the same item elsewhere with a better description, so I shall now update the OP.

Hmmm. I'll leave it as it is for now, as the one pictured is the one I've described. (I do believe you though!).

It's a little bit odd that HMV are so terrible about providing accurate titles, descriptions and images for their products, since it's essentially all that they sell...

They are notoriously bad especially with images but the catalogue No.on the spine of my copy from HMV is the same as the catalogue number on HMV's site

I love the smell of napalm in the morning!

Absolutely AWESOME improv performance by Brando.

Unfortunately, the movie itself is a terrible, gibbering mess.

quite simply one of the best films ever....although the redux version comes in quite long!

Some people are just...weird...but then again opinions are like ar*eholes...everyone's got one...me included !This is simply THE best movie ever...and I am not a war film biased freak etc...you've got to really watch it...then re-watch it...and re-re-watch it again ( either format btw ) and LISTEN to the dialogue...100%...nothing before / since and probably ever will surpass it. The film explains the duality of (wo)man...those who appreciate the movie will know EXACTLY what I mean. Respect. Those that find/found it 'boring' etc...keep watching teenflicks etc etc etc.
