don't like ipodshmod

but hot for this deal - also in silver it seems
#2
good deal but quite old so difficult to find them.

Do you still have to convert everything to apple propriatary format or can you just drag and drop mp3 into these these days. I am guessing not.....
#4
Bought the new nano for the youngster and was dreading using itunes, downloaded the new version and bined the requests to sync library and chose the manual handling which means you can drag and drop.

Maybe they have learnt from previous mistakes?

This is a good deal considering the capacity of these suckers

they've supported mp3 since day one

This is an old model. I'd rather pay the extra £45 and get the 120gig up2date classic + a free £10 gift card at Argos.... Or anywhere else. Point is these are gonna be cheap now to make room for the others. Keep an eye out for the (also old) 160gig version dropping in price bit by bit, day by day. Not bad, but not great for a soon-to-be outdated model. Fork out the extra little bit now so you don't regret it in 6months time when these 80gigs are RETRO :-D

Good deal for those who don't mind an older model but I agree with SuperDan.

that's the problem with the ipod.. it's like a fashion accessory. 6 months time and this will be "outdated"

I guess you'll have to bin it when that time comes

Its not 'outdated' as such and wont be 'outdated' in six months time. I think the point is if you're going to spend £129 on this you'd be as well to find an extra £30 for 50% more hard disk space and the latest model.
If this was £99 i'd vote it hot, but its no bargain at this price. Voted cold.
#10
Been this price for ages and unfortunately has been out of stock everywhere for ages.
#11
Good find this one, yes I know the 120 Gb one has more storage but then if your music collection will fit into 80 Gb with room to spare why spend money getting storage space you don't need. The only other thing you lose is the Genius feature which I've not used since I bought mine 2 months ago.

Voted hot!

Take no notice of the negative comments Bookshifter. This is a hot deal if ever ther is one. Sometimes I wonder about the people commenting on this site........

Hi everyone , let me know your thoughts on this i bought one of these in Argos Taunton (somerset) wednesday just gone , and it was a managers special , its a 80gb and it was in black or silver , i went for black and i paid £119.99 and then got the £10 giftcard . Making it only £109.99 . I was gonna try the trick of buying a £100 giftcard but she said we dont issue the free giftcard on purchases of giftcards.

I think £119.99 plus the £10 giftcard is a bargain - Shall i post it as a deal ( i dont know how to post a picture of my reciept though ) plus it may only be taunton store ?

just a quick note to those of you thinking of buying, all the newer ipods are volume caped ( with no hack as yet,-google it) , not a big problem with rock etc. but a right pain if your trying to listen to a podcast or classical music etc. on the train, bus , tube and so on

Volume capped, do you mean to say that you can't turn them all the way up to 11? How does the capping work?

Mp3 is a proprietary file format too you know.

AAC, the file format used as default by Apple was actually designed to be the follow up to mp3 and was developed by AT&T, Dolby, Sony and Nokia. Apple became early adopters of the format but the rest of the industry decided to stick to the inferior mp3 format.

As already mentioned, iPods have supported mp3 from day 1. They default to AAC though because it is more advanced than mp3.

A. iPods come out once a year, and usually they are just a storage capacity increase with 1 or 2 extra interface features. It is several years between body design changes (except in the case of the Nano that changed shape to accommodate a video screen and then went back to the original shape the following year)

B. This is the iconic ipod shape and has basically looked the same for 7 years since it was introduced. How many things do you wear that stay in fashion for 7 years?

I'm quite pleased that I just bought the Sony NWZ-S639FB 16GB Walkman that was on offer yesterday. It's supposed to be better then an Ipod. I'll just have to live with the stigma attached with not using an Ipod.

16gb? Just enough room for a couple of albums then?

"16 GB of space for storing up to 3,850 MP3 tracks" - which should be more the adequate.

Don't tell me you've got an album with 1,925 tracks on it?
#22
I believe he was making reference to the fact that a 16GB player is utterly useless to someone in the market for a 80GB player, who presumably has a media collection far bigger than flash based mp3 players can store. Though for most people 16GB is more than enough, that is about 10 days worth of music approximately

why when i post my image of my argos reciept it seems to get removed straight away?

Rockbox as far as I know doesn't support 6G iPods, ie the newer ones. Will support this one though.

Hot.

Rockbox doesn't support this model...the latest it will work on is the 5.5G.

Ironically, it's AAC which is the open format. MP3 is proprietary. Unless you reflash the device with something like Rockbox, you will need to use iTunes to fill it.

I work at Argos, managers specials are unique to each store. Or they are SUPPOSED to be! certainly within the REGION you shouldn't be able to find any other than in said store. Shame. Cos my staff discount would have made it worthwhile!

Also note that managers specials are grade-A stock - exdisplay or (more likely) refurbs! However unlike the manufacturers who supply a 90 day warrant, Argos guarentee all managers specials for standard 12months.

Kevin - if this wasn't explained to you go back and raise hell!
#35
Yes i know its managers specials , i have bought loads in this taunton store on managers specials and yep they are grade A , returned or refub products and for the price reductions they are baragins , the only thing i did return was a DUAL LCD TV , that was faulty.

The ipod i got is near perfect , some minor pocket scratches on the back but hardly noticeable , the front looks brand new.

The taunton store usually does loads of managers specials but stores in bristol usually have nothing.

Yeah only certain stores (the bigger ones) get them. I agree - they tend to be pretty good deals - you can still purchase the 3year accidental damage replacement cover with managers specials (which i think is nuts) meaning that if it *accidentally* went through the washing machine two and a half years down the line then you'll get a refund which you can use to get urself an up2date replacement. And all it will have cost you for however many years of service is the £17ish quid for the insurance! Madness......:whistling:

Just as a matter of interest, I have a iPod classic (previous version) and bought one of these off ebay (370120294088). Though it's **** as a radio it has the odd effect of over-riding the volume cap! i.e. Normal operation is, go into iPod menu volume setting, set to maximum, click centre button to set volume, come back out, go back in only to find volume restored to capped limit. Now, if I plug in radio attachment while setting volume, unlug it, iPod limit stays at maximum!

:( aww, thanks for the info anyway :)

i wonder how long it is before the 7th gen ipods, as there's a 240gb 1.8inch drive now, which could possibly be brought into the next model, dunno if a classic could be modified for it to work though.
