Just been looking to buy a new wireless router or access point and wanted an Apple Airport Extreme AP ideally though the £142 price was putting me off. Found them on the refurb page for £99 which is cheapest you can buy one from anywhere by a long way. 12 month warranty too.

They have the previous version also for £89 and the one before that for £79.

This isn't an ADSL router in case you ask, you will still need a modem for that. What you do get is an absolute beast of an AP. You simply can't get anything comparable in this price range. I've implemented a few of these in businesses and it's outstanding with even 20-30 connections at any one time and no downtime in months.

I expect this to get cold, I can't imagine the riff-raff that frequent this place voting hot when "youz can getz teh same things 4 free from uz interwebz supplierz"? :{

You should probably mention it's dual band, Gigabit etc. etc.

(voted hot btw 8))

Apple haters always going to hate. I can see why people have problems with a lot of their products but their APs really are outstanding and this is a good saving. Most people won't go for one of these as they can make do with cheap routers/APs but if you want a bit of quality then nothing beats these at this price point.

Voted hot, because it's fantastic value for a fantastic bit of kit. Apple appear have refurbed Airport Extremes for this price constantly, however.

Remember, the people that vote cold are the same Kia PIcanto drivers that claim VW owners have only paid for a badge.

The £55 airport express is a much better deal IMO

If you want the express model then yes, comparing Apples (geddit) with oranges there a bit.

How can you compare a express station, to this? hha

the express has its speaker port, which makes it unique,
this is just a router...

Erm, the express doesn't support simultaneous dual band, doesn't have Gigabit Ethernet support, doesn't support airport disk etc. You're not comparing like for like at all, they're different tools for different jobs that happen to share some key features.

Go and buy the express and keep silly comments to yourself... how can you compare two different products? if this is the cheapest price then its HOT no?

Actually, there are many credentials to what makes a hot deal, not just price.

Could care less if it was apple or alba as long as it has the features i want at the price i am willing to pay.

That said i dont own anything Apple because they all retail for more than i am prepared to pay. There's always a better product at a cheaper price out there, which is why i love this website so much.

Well you stick Apple in the title and cold voters come out. Fair enough it's not the hottest deal on the planet but it's certainly not cold. There isn't a better wireless AP for the money and if you can find it cheaper then do let us know, I might have time to cancel my order...

Hot from me

Sorry, but even an apple fanboy like me can see this isn't a bargain - the Airport base station regularly appears in the refurb store for this price. If it was a Time Capsule for £99, that'd be another matter...

£40 saving isn't a bargain if you're after one? Fair enough it may always be at this price on the refurb page but it can't harm to post it on here to let people know?

Personally I'm not keen on the time capsule, not a fan of integrating what could be two seperate critical devices in your wifi and your nas. If one goes you're without the other. At least with the base station you can attach a seperate hard disk giving you more data flexibility.
