Wouldn't you in theory be elgible for the free upgrade to Office 2008 or whatever they're calling it when it comes out since you're 'buying' Office after they announced the upgrade program?

Also worth noting the new MacBook is rumoured for a November release and this one while having a DVD drive does not write DVDs, only plays them.

I have ordered this hovewer I can not agree with Passenger57 that it does not have DVD rewriter as it is 2.16GHz model. The one which does not have DVD rewriting ability is 2.00GHz model. I have received confirmation that this is APPLE MBKW-13SD model where SD corresponds to SuperDrive not Combo Drive. Considering that this model alone is being sold for £829 the £687 (or £670 through Quidco) price with Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 (which indeed is upgradable for £15 to Office 2008 in January) and new OSX Leopard is real bargain. Hovewer knowing that DSG group is a bit dodgy I can see my order being cancelled due to not having office suite in stock. Voted hot!

You could get a laptop with a DVD RW and dedicated memory on the GPU for that much. I have an iBook but these new MacBooks are the epitome of cost cutting on Apple's part- yet they do not pass the saving on to the consumer.

Excellent deal if this is the current top end white model. I paid around £900 the day this model was released and had the RAM fully upgraded. Considering this is selling for £829.00 at the mo, the price of £687.64 including Office is an excellent deal.

One thing to point out though, the version of Office pictured is the Student and Teacher version. So I'm not sure if this would restrict you from installing it if you don't fall into this category?! I've always had to buy the Standard version so wouldn't know, sorry.

I bought this laptop from an Apple Shop whilst in the US less than 2 months ago. I paid only £3 less than this deal with a 6% discount and it did not include Mac Office. For any PC users who are undecided about changing over to Apple I was equally skeptical, but now I would never go back to Windows. This deal should also have access to the cheap upgrade to Leopard (for £5.95 if it doesn't come with it) and this should make it even a better deal and even more convincing to change over to Apple. Voted hot!!

I got the student and teacher edition of word when i was at uni for my first imac (had to get it to be able to do work in the library and save it and carry on at home), i think it cost me around £90 and you get 3 keys with it, so can put it on 3 pcs. i also put it on my ibook, and will be putting the last key on my macbook when i have chance.

I got it from Amazon and never did they ask where I went to uni etc, and when you put it on your mac it doesnt ask either so seems a little mad that its called student ed as pretty much anyone could buy it.

I know if you buy Photoshop CS3 student edition you have to send off proof that your a student etc but i suppose that is because of the difference in price.

Hmmm... I'm using one of these MacBooks right now. It most certainly does have a DVD/CD writer. Does dual layer DVDs as well.

It's a brilliant little laptop and this is a great deal on it.

I wouldn't put that Microsoft Office on it though. Steer clear of that stuff and stick with Pages or Mariner Write, much leaner and more efficient. ;-)
