The screen on these is fantastic! Even sharper than 1080p. Looks like a pretty good price to me.

Good price, but I personally paid a bit more for an i5

I agree with you, even my 24" iMac's screen is amazing, but nobody is paying just for a screen, I think an i3 would be such a waste on this machine, i5 at least!

Same resolution as a dell 30"

I have a Mac and a PC.
It's like buying a Renault or a BMW.
If you have the money you would buy the BM every time.
#6
can this be hacked to run windows?
#7
Dell sells a 27" monitor with the same resolution for £730 alone!

This iMac isn't just a desktop computer, it comes with a hi spec screen.

I certainly wouldn`t touch the BMW, now if it was an Audi that`s different :-)

Very tempting at this price, but the processor puts me off. That`s a lot of screen to be hampered by an i3 processor.

You don't need to hack it to run Windows - an official Apple program called Boot Camp will let you run Windows side-by-side with Mac OSX.

The screen is indeed a thing to behold. I watch pretty much everything on mine now because it's so nice to use.

Good price compared to the RRP.

In the order you have prescribed, the Mac is the Renault, and the PC is the BMW. Agreed :)

Bear in mind all these iMac deals are for a reason - new iMacs are expected any time now, so they're clearing old stock at the moment. It's still a very good saving and they're still great machines, but bear in mind they are due to replaced any day now.

Check here for more info.

You can get the Dell monitor (u2711) for £690 from Amazon. It's a fantastic screen - I'm looking at it now - and the only difference is that it has a matte finish, which I prefer.

The problem with this iMac is that the excellent screen is permanently attached to a weak CPU - an i3 just doesn't cut it and it's a pain in the bum to upgrade. Plus, with a PC, you get the option of installing a bluray drive.

Jesus, this place is tiresomely predictable with its fanboy arguments. Are people really so insecure about their choice of computer?
#16
I love the description
" the RAM in this Apple iMac MC510 can be upgraded to a mighty 16GB maximum capacity. "

I dont feel anything mighty using a 12GB ram PC for 2 years. 8)

Deduct the £750ish monitor, rest of the machine with software definitely worth over £350

wack deal - go get a better specced PC from a decent retailer at half price.

Yeah, but then BMW release a better version every year and you're a **** if you don't have the latest one.

Dont rise to the bait. Winners use Macs :)

I WILL PWN ALL OF YOU

Macs would be better, if they were value for money.

For the price of a Mac you can buy a super-PC.

If you like Apple, you clearly didn't see Charlie Brooker's rant on 10 o clock live.

Really, haven't people got better things to do than keep dragging out the PC v Mac debate again. This has been done to death millions of times. Get over it, its so unoriginal whatever side of the supposed fence you're on!

I've have the 21.5 model for over a year now and no regrets. Only thing worrying me a bit just now is possibly dead pixels but I'm not sure, gonna get it looked at.
If you told me a month before we bought it I'd own a Mac I'd have said NO but I am sooo converted, actually hate PC's now as they freeze up and the boot up etc. is ridiculous. Mac in sleep mode is instaneous swith on and work!

The best pwn I've ever seen on Hotukdeals!

Not really. Those photos are from Apple I guess. It's probably taken in Starbuck HQ or something...

These pictures are from the CERN website. The one at the top with Brian Cox was taken from the apple website in which it states physicists prefer using Mac OS X because it can compile legacy code like FORTRAN and other Unix apps, while on windows it's a complete pain.

Here's another picture from CERN.

Top 3 screens are Apple cinema displays running OS X.

Bottom screens are running Gentoo.

Oh and a macbook pro

What we can say is CERN and the LHC runs Linux and Mac OS X, but i see no windows OS!

Weakest comeback ever!

I have the i7 version of this at work with 16gb of ram because apple **** our order up and specced it up by over a grand which was nice considering we were never billed for the extras.

I don't know how the i3 runs but I can tell you that it wil be deceptively fast if your migrating over from a similar spec PC as long as you run OS X. Also the screen is unbelievably good, I personally have not seen a better one.
#31
Fantastic price, I use a 27 I5 at work and have a 24 I3 at home, I also have a dell xps430 that I am on now for gaming and general use, fact is that MAC is better for photoshop and safari is better than IE for internet (not that I use either, I use firefox on both mac and PC) but for gaming and converting DVD and video my quad core dell is better than the macs, fact is this is a great price for a great machine.

God I love it when the fanboys go at each other, like watching fans after a football match.

Just to get it out, not a Mac fan at all, love PC's. Hot for the price. cold for the spec. So it has a brill screen but whats the point if the hardwares low powrer now and you cannot upgrade.
#34
When is refresh?
#35
it showing at £1281
so how you get it for the lower price

I get why people may be appalled at the low spec, but the thing is, you just don't notice. I have an original ore duo mac mini with Intel GMA hooked up to a 37" inch Samsung, and it doesn't struggle with anything at all. I can be ripping/encoding DVDs with handbrake and Videora whilst playing music and surfing the web, with no lag, stutters or reduction in the immediacy of the OS.

Wow it can compile Fortran more easily, that's a relief.....pity it can't run Project, Visio or plenty of other useful apps....overpriced crap

It can, just use Boot Camp. You can get these to triple-boot in Ubuntu, too.

We've just got some of these at work and they're great, running Final Cut Studio, Adobe CS5 apps etc with no problems. They're not as fast as the Mac Pros, but so what? The screen is huge and amazingly clear- yes, an i5 would be nice, and an i7 even better, but if you want to run a big screen with a small desk footprint this is ideal. If you can find a cheaper screen with the same resolution, get that and build a Hackintosh with Snow Leopard on it, giving you the ease and stability of the OS minus the price tag.

I use Macs and PCs, and they're good at different things: PCs for games, 3D and office stuff, Macs for graphics and video, and Linux for re-purposing older technology for coding, video playback, etc. It all depends on what you do, and how much you are prepared to pay to do it.
