I find it bizarre that a machine costing nigh on £2k is offered at a discount just for students. How many students does apple think could realistically afford it?.

You'd be surprised. Apple gear makes up 40-odd percent of the student devices we see on our network at the university I work for. I guess many think £2k extra debt is not much more on top of that they'll incur anyway for tuition fees and accommodation. Or mummy and daddy are paying...

to be honest as far as Apple stuff goes and being way overpriced, this apple isn't overpriced. If you built a similar spec pc system with windows it wouldt be far off this price
