Its so ironic how the people that hated on Apple buyers have turned into exactly what they thought the Apple buyers were.

You know homebargains have exclusive rights to the Nexus7 in the UK right?

So it doesn't play flash or have an sd card slot ! Really are you sure ?

So for those with a 16gb iPad... Does it provide sufficient storage? Do you end up juggling apps about? Tempted to get a 32gb but begrudge paying an extra 80 quid for 16gb extra storage.

The 14 gb you get is next to useless TBH, especially when some games or apps can be up to 1gb. Then throw in some movies and photos and you will struggle.

I use one of these and it works a treat http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-16GB-Portable-Storage-Wi-Drive/dp/B005KSYWXS/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1341047941&sr=1-1-catcorr

Well I think it has an SD slot and play flash, but apart from that I'm 100% sure.

All the apple haters ever say is oh but it don't have flash now these people know why apple don't use flash and thats because it uses way too much ram and processing power HTML 5 will over take flash which is much more stable anyway adobe who make flash have said they are pulling the plug on it on mobile devices anyway and going down the HTML route most websites have started to implement this so sorry apple haters but this one dont work anymore what other things are you going to say why apple products are poor X)

There also a security element raised by Apple and companies.

I've moved from an Android tablet to the new iPad and it's the best move I've ever made. I still have an android phone but the ipad beats android tablets hands down. Apps are better, the whole UI is far smoother and hardly lags at all. The refine display is lovely and it's worth the extra compared to an android tablet. These will hold better value than android tablets. Good price for this 16gb is enough as I stream most my stuff and don't really game that much. As a reader and Web browsing machine its excellent. Also use mine to stream live tv from my box.

Re earlier post: Whilst HTML5(+CSS3) will end Flash dominance for interactive web-apps at sone point that is not the case - yet! You simply can't currently achieve the same cross-browser experience with HTML5!

For me Apple do not allow Flash for one reason, it would lose them a lot of money! - You would not need to wade through the tripe in the (cr)App Store! The RAM and stability arguments for iOS Flash are weak at best!

I do have iPhone(s) and an iPad which do a great basic job, but I'm not a typical Apple fan-boy happy to believe whatever crap Apple say!

The nexus 7 isn.t setting out to rival iPad 3 ( or samsung galaxy s's for that matter) so why are so many numpties going on about rivalling iPads. The nexus 7 is going for the mid market to bring touchscreen Internet to the masses.
for those who think £400 is too expensive..

I can.t see why the nexus 7 hit 2000 degrees it's not even discounted..

It looks a nice piece of kit but so Is an iPad / iPhone / galaxy s, ..
Think I will buy a nexus as they are a great price.. £160

I have a 32 Gb, after OS and conversion to GB (which is what the OS reports capacity in) it has 27.9 GB useable storage.

I got it a few weeks after launch and currently have 18.1GB free. That includes a few large games and some mags/newspapers etc from the news stand, the rest are my smaller Apps. there are no videos or music on it. Given I load it up with some PDFs/DOCs and maybe a movie/mags/papers for the plane I think 32GB is about right for me. With a 16GB I'd probably be juggling Apps on and off every time I travel and this is after only a few months of ownership.

Hope that helps.

This site makes me chuckle. The idea of the forum is to vote on whether the item is question is a good deal; I don't understand why some forum members vote cold and leave unhelpful comments because of a 'similar' product that performs 'similar' tasks.

This is a HOT deal as its cheaper than nearly everywhere - no argument. The Nexus deal is also HOT.

For those that wish to promote an alternative option, why not try a statement such as:
"Voted Hot, great for those in the market for an iPad - However personally I would prefer a XXX because of XXX".
This shows the OP the respect they deserve for spending the time to help other forum members whilst allowing you to put forward an alternative option a relatively intelligent manor.

I have always used Android products but last month I decided to buy an new iPad. I'm so glad I did as its an amazing piece of kit. I still love my Android tablet, but for completely different reasons.

Although I would seriously recommend going for a 32gb if you can afford the extra (retina apps take up LOADS of space, not to mention hd video), this is an amazing deal so heat!

It's got to be cold....£180 more than the nexus tab, 3 inch's bigger and still No SD card slot, No Flash support. This one has no 3g either and only 16gb, people were complaing about that space for the nexus tab and saying that it wont be enough, well the apps designed for the retina display on the ipad are probably 3 times as big file size wise and you will be wanting to watch HD content on here as the resolution is higher than 1080p and you know how bad SD content can look on a high res screen dont you?

Oh yeah this is still stuck in the past with it's 4:3 aspect ratio, the new iphone is rumored to be 16:9 aspect ratio, so I wouldnt be suprised to see the new ipad coming out after this one to also change the aspect ratio to 16:9. One of the main problems with Apple is the walled garden, give me drag and drop, sd slot and flash support (Apple never supported this as it would have tore a hole in their pockets and half the apps wouldnt have sold as they were already available for free)

4:3 is a much better format for web browsing and reading I actually prefer the 4:3 on the iPad to my 16:9 Galaxy Tab 10.1. 16:9 is good for movies and such but awkward to hold at that size.

Google is going the Apple way with no SD cards and such, flash will die on mobile platforms hence why no flash support on Jelly Bean. HTML5 is the future. 3G not an issue if you have a smart phone that can tether. Is it worth the extra £180 only individuals can decide that for me it is, 3 inches bigger, retina display, better support, will hold better value, better apps, has a camera (I don't use cameras on tablets anyways), etc etc.

Nexus 7 is a mid range product, totally different market to the iPad.

I am no Apply fanboy as I use Android primarily for my mobile handsets, the new iPad is my 3rd Apple product, after an iPod shuffle, then iPod touch, and I can see why they are deemed to be good the iPads anyways.

The current iPhone doesn't have a 4:3 display, so not so sure why you are using speculation on a future iPhones aspect ratio to deduce the aspect ratio of the next iPad will change to match it. The aspect ratios of the devices are different now, so clearly they can be different in the future.

Wrt your comment about SD content, wouldn't that apply to any tablet, unless of course you have one which has a native res to match PAL/NTSC. Which of course would be absolutely awfull for everything else one uses a tablet for, you might aswell buy a portable media player.

for web browsing, email and the like ipads still king. More apps can jailbreak and put xbmc on it adding dnla and ability to play off usb sticks using a camera adapter. I think this is a great deal. Very rare to get any disxount on apple product lines let alone current gen.

The nexus tab looks great for the money but its no comparison to ine of these. For most 7" screen is too small for web browsing.

ok yeah you're right about the different aspect ratios for the iphone and ipad I assumed they were the same as I remember people saying that the apps are interchangable with iphone and ipad and Apple wants to make sure everything is compatable and that everybody is designing for the same thing, but thinking about it iphone apps on ipad come up in a small window or they can be streched out / zoomed in abit.

If you watch SD content on lets say an SD TV the picture is fine, if however you watch that same content on a 1080p TV it will look worse than what it did on the SD TV as the SD will have to be upscaled by what ever process is used to fill in the new pixels.... now thats with SD to HD. 1080p (1920 by 1080) New Ipad is 2048 by 1536. With the lower res of other tablets SD movies etc should look better on them as they have got less stretching / filling in pixels to do. And with only 16gb of storage I would guess thats what you would mainly want 700mb - 1.4 gb rips of movies for on the go, not 4 - 12gb size 1080p movies (that will still be upscaled to ipad res), I guess you could use it for one high quality 1080p movie and a few apps lol and the cloud won;t be of any help on the go as it's wi-fi only.

Agreed. I thought it was an odd choice before I used one, but 4:3 is good in landscape or portrait for all kinds of apps.
16:9 only works well for media files.

iPhone apps running on an iPad can either be run at their original res or run at 2x, as you said they can't be run at full screen. While that is a compromise, it means scaling is based on an integer multiple of the original and therefore eliminates any possible introduction of artifacts. Either way App support for iPad is very good in the market, therefore it's rarely an issue.

Wrt up scaling of video, it's a little simplistic to focus on native res of the panel. Once you diverge significantly from 1:1 (as you do with SD video on any tablet) its the quality of the scaling that really matters, unless you can scale to a direct multiple of the source.

As an example I use mine to view Sky Go/iPlayer etc and it does a much better job of scaling then my PC did to a much lower res display.

Downscaling is generally preferable to up scaling (the quality of the scalar is still important when you diverge significantly from the source res) so obviously lower res panels may be preferable in this instance. But you are throwing away a significant part of the source material, personally I'd rather watch letter boxed then do that. I'd also rather have a higher res display on something like a tablet and put up with the compromises when it comes to viewing video material. I guess others may view things differently, but if video playback is your number one priority IMO its pointless buying a tablet to achieve that (why not just buy a portable media player).

Also since we're talking about space constraints, isn't it wasteful to carry around a 1080p mkv on a lower res tablet when it can't display half the detail contained in the video. The alternative is of course re encoding all your videos to the native res of the tablet, but once again the quality of scaling comes into play :/

Personally I hope Apples current strategy forces everyone to follow suit with higher res displays. For too long displays have been neglected for the pursuit of silicon which yields negligible benefits for most. Anyone that's used a high res display will soon realise the productivity gains it affords. While for most tasks our 4/5 year old laptops (with decent memory and HDD) perform just aswell as the latest and greatest i5/i7/etc.

The Nexus is competiting against the Amazon Kindle Fire, not the iPad.

It's a cheaper alternative to an iPad but has a smaller screen etc. so wouldn't say it's in direct competition.

Heat added.

Wow your maths is really bad. And by the way, flash is not supported on the latest Android 4.1 Jellybean, it will be pulled out of the Play Store. I love Google products but the forum here is not to rate the product hot or cold based on its features, instead it is to rate the 'deal' you are getting on that product.
