£440 for a phone that is about to be made obsolete in one month is not a hot deal. The O2 deal is the better one though because they will unlock it after 12 months. Orange/Vodafone/Others will NEVER unlock from their network.

That's just a silly remark, it will hardly be obsolete! with the new OS 4 software the iphone 3GS will almost have the same software features as the new 4G

Maybe almost the same. We don't know what the new iPhone will do yet because it hasn't officially been announced. And we don't know which features Apple will prevent 3GS owners from accessing. At this price, you'd have to be crazy not to wait for the announcements. And I struggle to see how anyone can justify this price tag as a hot deal when 4GS is so close.

The new iphone is going to have significant hardware improvements over the 3GS. when the new iphone comes out the prices of 3GS will drop, wait one month and get a better phone for the same price.

Exactly, there's nothing hot about this. The iPhone 4 will cost this much on PAYG when it's released next month/early July.

And iirc, it was a bit cheaper than this when it first came out thanks to the 15% VAT.

O2 will unlock on day of purchase for £15, Orange will unlock after three months for £20.

Just bought one of these for £350 new on eBay, it's hardly obsolete - although I wouldn't get one on a 24 mth contract!. The 3GS will (pretty much) do all the things the 4G will do in terms of software, however the 4G will have a front facing camera, faster processor and likely more memory... and a bigger price tag

I'll probably sell my 3GS and get the next one up! Although, not sure how much i will get for mine, although it is in the same condition as when i purchased it! Hopefully get £300-350

Wal-Mart in the US has also started slashing the price of the 3GS, it will not take long for the same to happen here

Walmart have indeed slashed the price to $97 for the 16GB version but then you have to sign up for a 2 year contract at $45-60 per month (with potential for the cost to exceed $1500 dependant upon minutes and network)

What's so bad about a 24 month deal. If you are willing to pay £350 cash for a handset then you could be getting 2 years worth of O2 for less than £100 extra. And with the contract you don't have to fork out the whole lot up front.

Sorry, didn't mention I funded it with the sale of a HTC Desire which I got on a very good contract. Normally I wouldn't spend that kind of money

I think even then I'd have kept the cash and taken the contract. However I can appreciate YMMV.
