Apple Iphone 6 Screen Repair £79.00 @ Apple

Dont know if this is neccesarily a deal, but last week, i smashed my iphone screen. I did the usual rounds of phoning around asking how much the repair would be and in the local phone shops, they were charging between 130 and 220. With this in mind, i thought sod it il go to apple and pay a bit more because at least then i wont void its warranty.
To my suprise, it is a standard £79 charge for the screen repair and this gives your phone the once over from apple and a further warranty on the screen.
Im glad i found about this, as i was so close to paying 120 and it was only last minute i decided to go to apple. There is no advertising that it is £79, it is just the fixed price apple charge - the apple worker/genius told me it is a fixed prica and wont change - same all over uk.

here is examle of other people charging for iphone 6 screens:

http://iphonefixed.co.uk/iphone-6-screen-repairs.html
http://www.bristoliphonerepair.co.uk/product/iphone-6-black-screen-repair

*Only applicable if your phone is in warranty.
- DEALS4EVA

It's actually £86.44 on Apple website:

https://www.apple.com/uk/support/iphone/repair/screen-damage/
- badzed

thats actually when you include the delivery charge, its actually £79 when taken into an apple store

The independent phone repair places you get on most high streets will do it for about £40

Last year my iPhone 5 smashed and they charged £120. So £79 is actually very reasonable. And you won't void the guarantee. Thanks op. Heat added. Great post

a little off topic - but any idea roughly how much a screen replacement for the iphone 4 should cost?
#10
My local Apple Store charged me £99 for the 6 plus. Dropped in at 9am picked up at 10am :)
#11
Odd that the 6 is cheaper than older models. I guess it's probably less labour intensive to change it.

How is that nuts? The phone is expensive so £79 with an (ironically) intact warranty and a very swift replacement with official screen seems very reasonable to me. You'd be lucky to get a genuine screen on a £79 phone fixed for much less than £79, with official components from the original manufacturer. Sony charged me £115 to fix a SIM slot.

Apple give you standard estimates for repair on their website - they do not advertise it instore as they enjoy a 'clean' environment with minimal signs - go figure

Reasonable price and advantageous for people to know about this

Okay, so this may get lost in the sea of comments but I feel I need to say it. Don't get your screen replaced by a friend, your own hands or anywhere that is not an Apple Store. It will void the warranty. What happens if 2 months later the screen stops working and apple tell you they'll do nothing about it? You're not going to have a warranty anywhere else... And if you're planning on going down the insurance roots, a lot of insurers will want the issue verified by the Genius Bar or will give you the money to have it done there. Either way, that's not gonna work out for you.

Excuse the rant but even if you tix the screen fine, what happens if the lock button goes when the phone is 10 months old. Normally apple would fix that for free, but you've just talked yourself out of a free replacement.

Long story short, don't try to take shortcuts on an expensive product.

Had mine done in a local phone shop a few months ago, £20 plus free case. Market stall wanted £30.
Found out there is loads of videos on Utube showing you how to do it and a kit and screen from Ebay will be much cheaper than the £20 as well.

In warranty prices only, out of warranty charges are:

Out-of-warranty* cost:
iPhone 6 Plus: £266.44
iPhone 6: £236.44
iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5: £206.44
iPhone 4s: £166.44
iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G: £126.44

I smashed my 5S screen a few weeks ago and was quite happy for Mr Mobile to fix it for £49 rather than paying £200 direct with Apple!

(Obviously all 6/6 Pluses are still in warranty)

Is it just me, or there a disproportionately high number of iPhone screens that are damaged, never seen many other phones with so many broken screens.

Edit, I think the numbers are about right based on friends, work.

Any idea how much iPad Air 2 screens are ? Mine was turned on it's side in a case and cracked ! Screens are so crap... No AppleCare either so doubt they will do anything :-(

Some would suggest it's intentional. Mark up a screen replacement for them must be huge, considering the mark up on the phone in the first place.

When I was an Apple guy I used to notice that when a new device came out the current models would coincidentally slow down...

Heat for such a tasteful pic!

my 2 year old smashed my iPad 2 screen, paid 50 pounds in local shop to repair. Cheeky monkey broke it again within a month, ordered one from eBay, watched YouTube video on how to repair, and fixed it myself for 10 pounds :). Having said that, the quality of screen in local shops and eBay is not like original screen. A very good deal if you want a genuine apple screen for your phone.
#36
It's only that price if you have apple care, if not it's a lot more

how difficult is it. I gave a craked screen and unsure weather to fix it leave it as it is as it still works fine.

You will always be out of warranty if you break the screen, applecare doesn't cover accidental damage!

Have a read through the link posted on page 1 of this thread, clearly states the out of warranty cost of a display replacement.

So you may have been better off going to Apple in the long run as you will only pay the prices you quoted if you have other damage as well as a cracked display.

I'm not going to comment on the price of replacing a cracked iPhone screen, as this particular topic is a small annoyance to me.

I just want to suggest that 99.9% of people with a broken phone screen would have prevented £££s worth of damage and possibly void warranty in the first by just buying a silicone/gel case and screen protector off eBay. We're talking a maximum cost of £5 for both, and they really do work to absorb shock and prevent shattering....

i had a silicone gel case and a screen protector, and it still broke. anyway - if i posted a deal for 50% off slimming world registration, i wouldnt expect someone to comment on how i should have avoided mcdonalds and kfc and saved all that money in the first place...
