If you use o2, in particular Pay As You Go, iTunes will now allow you to activate an iPhone with a o2 PAYG SIM card! (I just tried with my 1st gen upgraded to v2.0).

This might help someone who somehow manages to get a iPhone 3G without having to sign up to a contract before the PAYG edition is released, or any older iPhone owners who don't want to jailbreak etc to enjoy the new v2.0 firmware.

Pay as you go iphones are coming out in about three months.

In the same way as almost every other mobile phone is sold with a contract, now, so is the iPhone. You can't walk away from a website or out of a shop without having signed up for at least 18 months of £30/month.

well cant blame them, once they knocked the price down to 169 only 15% were activated properly (i.e proper contract taken up) i was in the other 85%

How do you know this as I have looked on the site and can't find this info. I have a PAYG O2 phone and would love to get the iphone, hope you can advise me. thanks

Think this is because the o2 sign up system crashed all day yesterday - so they let people take the phone without signing up on the proviso they go back to the store later??

Don't think anyone will get away with it from now on. U can stick any sim in the iPhone, but it will switch straight to the tariff you signed up to with o2.

no its because now the iphone will now be on PAYG that it can be done, i didnt sign up to any tariff when i bought me standard iphone, i just stuck my existing contract sim in there, so nothing will come of it. its same when everyone was scaremongering when the price dropped down to £169 for standard iphone and nothing happened

yes if you are prepared to use teh o2 PAYG sim as opposed to your orange sim, if you want to continue using teh orange sim just wait until a update for likes of PWN iliberty etc come out, it wont be that long since 2.0 has already been jailbroken etc, i would say middle til end o next week

so hang on a min here, I have an old Iphone, if I put a new o2 sim in it, and activate. It will work? Straight up? This will be cool for selling on!
#14
you can just unlock it and sell it as long as its software 1.1.4 or under with liberty.

Does Edge work properly with an o2 PAYG sim? I thought o2 didn't allow Edge to be activated on any of their PAYG sims.
