Product Information

The Apple Universal Dock serves as a convenient and elegant home base for charging, syncing, and more. Through the use of interchangeable inserts called Dock Adapters, it works with iPhone and all iPod models that have a dock connector. So even if you own more than one iPod or iPhone, you can keep just one Dock connected to your computer, stereo, or TV.

When your iPod or iPhone is in the Dock and connected to a stereo or TV, you can experience songs, slideshows, and more! Just choose a playlist, slideshow, or video, then sit back and enjoy. (Please note additional cables not supplied which are required for this function)

Here are some of the things you can do with the Universal Dock:

* Connect the Dock to your computer with the cable that came with your iPod or iPhone,
and then place your iPod or iPhone in the Dock to sync and charge the battery.
No more reaching behind the computer to plug it in!
* Connect the Dock to an electrical outlet using a USB Power Adapter,
and then place your iPod or iPhone in the Dock to charge the battery.
* Connect the Dock to a stereo or speakers using a stereo audio cable to
play music from iPod or iPhone (stereo audio cable - not supplied)
* Display photos or video on a TV or other video device using a Component AV Cable
or Composite AV Cable if you have an iPod that plays video.
(Composite/Component AV Cables - not supplied)
* Any iPhone or iPod with a dock connector can fit perfectly into the Universal Dock
through the use of interchangeable inserts called Dock Adapters - all supplied with
the dock! You simply insert the Dock Adapter for your particular model, and then plug
in your iPod. When you want to connect a different-sized iPod or iPhone, very simply
pop out the Dock Adapter and insert another one.

This accessory is compatible with the following Apple products:

* iPod 3rd Generation
* iPod 4th Generation
* iPod 5th Generation

Does any one know whether or not this actually is a Universal Dock, or just a bog standard desktop charger??

The photo doesn't match the photo of a Universal Dock on Apple's website (the one with the TV connections), and the Title of the Product Page on MemoryBit's website suggests that it is just a charger (despite what their product info would suggest).

I have spoken to someone at MemoryBits and they didn't really understand and just read out from the Product Info!

Has anyone actually taken delivery of this yet?!

Here's the Belkin dock + USB hub that DazzyB posted but cheaper (£4.59 + 3.99 shipping).
I ordered two for me and my housemate - I damn hope it works with the 2nd gen ipod touch - reports on the web are conflicting.

Dont mean to state the obvious but you will also need the wire (between the dock and your pc/mac). These are included with all ipodge or iphones, but just thought FYI.

I've been waiting for my friend down the market to get me one of these but he's not come up with the goods - this is a good spot.

HOT and REP ++

I don't think that this product is the one that is currently being advertised on the Apple website @ £29.99. The one at Memory Bits doesn't have the remote control I don't think?

Just ordered two regardless, one for home and one for the office!

Also, don't forget Quidco (like I just did!) @ 10% . . .

can t use the discount code with quidco

Voted hot!

I think you can use the code '20off' to get 20% off instead of the 15% discount offered by the vouchers attached in this post. I used it last week to order a portable hard drive and it worked fine.

It did come up with a message about not being able to use discount codes if you're visiting via a cashback site however, so visit the site directly and add the product to your shopping basket first along with the discount code '20off'. Then close your browser and visit again via Quidco. Your shopping baskets will hopefully be saved, and although the same message comes up about not being able to use discount codes, the price will already be updated to allow for the code you entered earlier so you'll still get the discount.

I found this by fluke and my Quidco has tracked! They may not pay it, but will have to wait and see.

£7.84 for effectively nothing but a stand...
#21
I vote hot, even though I bought an iPod Universal Dock for £7 months ago from eBay which is better because it had an IR port for remote and this one doesn't.

Agreed, but I cant go leaving my iPhone laying on the desk now... And I would rather have my iPod plugged in to its own dock too...so this is a bargain really...

Tounge firmly in cheek! Seriously tho, the main point of this is that its cheaper and therefore a deal. Whether anyone needs this? meh.
#23
I think there is an error in the listing information here.

It cant be an offical apple product as apple make 2 versions of the stand for the iphone and the iphone 3G. The iphones are different sizes.
#24
Does this have the remote with it?

Actually, it depends ... if you signed up for at AV forums you could qualify for lifetime free shipping. I did a long time back and have bought stuff from them in the past without issues... all free delivery! :)

Quick search on hotukdeals turned up this one:

Dig deeper for more info if anything...

Yes, comes with a wall-wart and won't function as a USB hub without power.

Usual story sadly, "Charging is not supported with this accessory".

It's an absolutely cracking USB hub for the price though!

USB hub?

Does it just connect to your pc via the usb to iPhone cable?

Can you sync as per normal with it?

But it doesnt charge your 3g iPhone?
#36
I'm not convinced this is an Apple product. Their last two universal docks have had a remote eye on the front - the most recent square and the previous one round. The older docks (including the pre remote ones) don't work with the iPhone 3G whereas this one claims it will.
So as far as I know Apple haven't made a non remote dock that works with the iPhone 3G, so something is a bit odd here.
There is also no mention made of the remote control which comes included with the official dock.

The current official dock is shown here

Now I'm not saying that this is not a good price for a universal dock and it probably works perfectly well- but if you are a person who insists on having official Apple products only, you may want to think again.
#37
think I'll go for it but anyone know where to get a lead from? I need a spare one for work
#38
I was just about to order two of these, but something isnt right.

This is not a Universal dock. It was not designed for the iPhone.

I Googled the part number: M9868G/A. It comes up as an iPod Photo dock, which is very old, and does not accept the new dock adapters as the description suggests. The description seems to be for the newer Universal dock, whereas the product part number relates to the old dock, which came with a couple of adapters, but not the new style adapters.

i agree, this is a dock for the old ipod photo

did a search on ebay for that ref number and a result shows that it is quite an old version of the dock

same ref number
