your son asked for the new one, its only £10 more in several colours and wayy better as it has buttons and this does not, so dont disappoint him. by getting him this disappointment of a product.

can you download apps for this like imobsters

I'd go for something like the Sansa Clip+ instead.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sandisk-Sansa-Clip-Player-black/dp/B002NX0MFA/

It's expandable via microSD, and it also has a screen. You can probably get it cheaper than that, or a version with 4gb or 8gb for not much more, but I would much prefer that to a Shuffle, for which you're mostly paying for the branding.

The problem with this "3rd generation" Shuffle (aside from the fact that it's now obsolete) is that it has no controls on the device itself. You have to use the earphones supplied, which have a controller built into the cable. Or buy a third party adaptor.

Got one of these yonks ago....it's a neat bit of kit but just annoying not being able to use your own headphones, and the lack of any screen is irksome too.

Not to mention better sound quality on the Sansa compared to the iPoop.

Total waste of time these. Extremely limited storage space and no screen whatsoever. Mrs Taksim bought me one for Xmas the other year and I flogged it on eBay (don't tell her she still doesn't know!).

crap crap crap

The very fact that Apple have reintroduced buttons on new gen shuffles suggests even they realised this wasn't the most intuitive bit of kit.

He probably wants an iPod Touch, he will likely be disappointed with a previous generation shuffle!

Saying that he should be happy with whatever he got.

A myth which has been proven false time and time again yet still gets banded around like fact on the internet.

Trust me he will be disapointed if you get him an iPod Shuffle for Xmas.

What you want to get him is an iPod Nano. Or obviously if you can afford it get a Touch. The Nano's cost about £117 for an 8Gb or £137 for a 16Gb brand new in the latest generation.

Forget about Sanza Clips or any other brand of MP3 player. At 11yrs of age it's all about steeet cred and Apple are without doubt the most trendiest brand!

However if you keep your eyes peeled you can often get refurbushed (latest generation model) or brand new previous generation model for £79.

We got three brand new 4th generation (current generation is 5th) 8Gb Nanos for £79 from Toy's r Us for our kids last Xmas and they love them and never put them down!

Sansa clip is superb. Ive had mine over a year its been dropped in water, down a flight of stairs, off a treadmill about 10 times and its still perfect. Sound better than the shuffle and u can actually pick the track u want. Better headphones as well.
