oh lawd, how much do i want to sell my 8GB now

edit: ignore that, i misread and thought it was an iPhone. Damn they look so alike!

nice price though
#2
voted hot, thats a great price for the touch
#3
only a little bit more ex than in that USA, hot.
#4
I know its only 8GB, but surely an iphone for £169 is better value?
easy to unlock
better resale value if you get fed up with it
its also a phone
#5
I listened to an Ipod touch for the first time yesterday and its SQ was awful.
Even with no eq it sounded flat and dull and lifeless, with eq well it sounded even worse.
My iAudio D2 Pisse* all over it in terms of SQ.
#6
Cold, it's still really overpriced per Gb. While the price is overinflated it can never be a good deal.
#7
Cold for me too. Compared to the regular iPods this is way over priced IMHO. Pay less and get a phone as well! 8gb is plenty if you're selective with your playlist. Once I had got rid of the wife's bloody Barbra Streisand and Carpenters tracks there was plenty of room for my music and even a few eps of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
#8
Oh come on people, we all know you get better value per GB if you buy an ipod classic or whatever but that isnt a reason to vote this cold.

This is the best price I have ever seen it I think. I wouldnt buy an iphone as I wouldnt want to have to take this expensive piece of kit everywhere I go ie, long drunken nights out, my £20 phone does that fine and who cares if I lose/misplace it.

So for an extra £30 I get 8GB extra storage and luckily the timing is perfect as payday is on Monday. Been waiting so long to get my hands on one I think I may have to pay £10 for next day delivery.

HOT HOT HOT!

Get an iphone instead £169.... better value for money!

And more fun unlocking it :-)
#10
I (personally) don't think that's the point of hot vs. cold, Noghar. I might be wrong, but we're not voting here on how good or bad the product is, but how good or bad the deal is.
#11
The touch is in the middle ground, not enough storage for a heavy user and not enough features compared to the iphone for people with small music collections to want.

The ideal solution is an 80/160gb ipod classic to store everything on, there cheap and storing everything on it is essentially "backing up" your entire music collection if anything goes haywire with your computer for whatever reason AND an 8gb iphone as for price its a bargain at £169 and that 8gb of storage is ideal for dailly commutes to work, lunch breaks or just general listening to.

Buying both the above is more expensive than this but from a practical point of view 16gb is small to use as many people's "main" ipod.
#12
one of the best purchases i made, got a 16gig around when they first came out, this is a great price
and the sound quality is good enough for me, but i'm no audiophile so wouldn't know any better :)
#13
I'm holding out for a price cut on the 32GB - can't be long, surely!
#14
I caved in and bought an 8gb iPhone yesterday, something I didnt think i would ever do, but the £100 off meant it was a pretty good deal for what is effectively a non-contract phone if you unlock it etc. Quite impressed so far with it, but not got round to using the iPod bit yet (at least with headphones on). 8Gb is more than enough for me as I will only use the iPod on a few occasions, still holds enough to keep me happy.

Arent the 8gb Touches still this price?

Seems a good enough deal to me for Apple at least.

Yes, I suppose it is a good price for a 16gb iPod Touch, but I still think it's too much, and that the iTouch range as a whole is overpriced. 8gb with a phone for £170 is far better value. I was judging it relative to that deal, which I feel makes it cold.

perhaps I'm jaded because I paid £200 for an 8gb iTouch for the wife at the start of March..!

Bit off topic, but...

Am I missing something, all these people saying get the 8gb iphone instead? Do you not have to sign up to an 18 month contact to get the iphone? If not, im going out now to buy one now :-)

Thanks

Where have you been for 10 days - under a rock!! :)

There's a 419 page thread on it here - http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/171022/iphone-price-reduced-to-169-from-to/

Yep just buy an iphone from CPW for £169 and take it home and unlock it to any network - apparently takes moments and is very simple. No contract required.
#19
 Thanks for the replies guys.

had been ignoring the iphone deals as im locked in on my N95 for now, and was stupidly believing I would need another contract.

Going to be visiting my local CPWH tomorrow in the hope they still have some left :-)

Sorry for taking the replies off topic (annoys me at times).

Voted Hot, paid £238 for mine not long ago.
#20
Voted lukewarm as although I paid £240 for mine a while back, the price of flash memory has fallen faster than this price drop indicates. It really should be at the discounted price of the 8GB iPhone. Bear also in mind that the iPod Touches have an inferior screen to the iPhones.

Is that right?

I was thinking of getting the iphone, but do not need the "phone" part as was wondering the differences, anyone know?
#22
I love my ipod touch. I wish it was the 32gb but its still awesome!

One of my happiest purchases.
#23
Also worth mentioning is the ipod touch is(substantially) thinner than the iphone. I alway carry my touch in my back pocket and I always have to check if its there or not when i want it, even when sat down.

Iphone is GREAT but if u don't need the phone part then get the touch imho.

WRONG
The ipod touch had inferior black levels when they were first released.
This was later fixed with a firmware update, proving it wasn't the screen at fault.

Thats what I was going to say but then doubted myself and thought I must have dreamt it. It was more down to a calibration thing than anything to do with the screen. It would cost more to have two different screens in two similar devices..

Anyway, with the touch(and iphone), web browsing is simply astonishing - you get used to it but when you first get your hands on one it's incredible how user-friendly it is. Even now though, after having it 6 months, I still smile at how much this thing does. I find more and more things for it to do for me everyday and LOVE the way it does them. I'm not a geek who likes things just because I just like things, I genuinely use it all the time!

Like the gmail app for instance, it just checks my mail every 5 minutes and downloads anything new(up to 200 messages) including attachments etc. I don't have to tell it to sync, it doesn't light up or come on to do it - it just quietly and invisibly does it whenever I am in range of a wi-fi point it can use..

I usually have my most recent mails and attachments with me and I don't have to boot my laptop up to check them. it's all so effortless.

It's a truly great piece of hardware and when the iphone comes out with 3g, 32gb of memory and a decent camera that's it - the future will be now! For me anyway :)

Does anyone know if these are UK or US versions? I read somewhere that ebuyer sell a lot of US imported ipods which means there is no no warranty cover if anything goes wrong.

Does anyone know cos I'm really tempted to get one

There is no U.S version, I don't think. I wouldn't worry about that at all...warranty is only 12 months anyway - which ebuyer offer by law anyway.

It's all flash based anyway - I'd be amazed if there are any probs in 12 months - you would be very unlucky i'd say! But also covered ;)

I have a pristine iPod Touch. No negative black issues whatsoever. This was a hardware issue, btw; all that the firmware update did was to boost brightness at the cost of battery life. It did not resolve the basic display fault until better screens were sourced (or the manufacturing process tightened up) from week 38 of 2007.

I base this on the non-scientific evidence of putting the iPod Touch up against an iPhone (in the Applestores) and comparing mine with a colleague's recently bought iPhone. The iPhone's colours are more vivid and the display seems a tad brighter. YMMV, as always.

These are now £189 at BigPockets.

I suppose it is possible they are graded items, but meh!

We purchased one of these in the USA last week and cost us $399 dollars plus tax. Worked out to be £215 but it will vary according to the exchange rate you get and the local tax state (6.5% in Orlando). We were told the warranty with apple is world wide and is an identical machine. All upgrades are now included in the price
#32
voted hot, this whole site is about how good the deal is not how good you think the product is

I think with Apple you have to pay for updates.

The apple update which you have to pay with is a 'widget' pack, with things like notes, maps and weather and two more and is priced at the fairly pricey £20. However, if you bought a iPod Touch after January (when the widget pack was released) it should be included in the Touch already. Other updates, such as firmware updates are free. Hope this helps :)
