Thanks - I had the same email and have just ordered it for my daughter who, as long as she gets an ipod touch for her 15th birthday next Monday, couldn't care less about the generation.
#2
the 2nd gen battery last longer ;)
#3
Do you know whether the 2nd generation has built-in speakers?

Well don't forget quidco possible 2% and if this is your first order then I believe you get an additional £5.

2nd Generation iPod only miss when compared to 3rd generation

1) Voice control
2) Voice Over
3) Earphone with in built microphone

Apart from that and the fact you can get a 64GB 3rd gen. They are basically the same and the dimensions.

Quoted from this lovely comparison table on Wikipedia

i compared the 2g 32 gb against the 3g 64 gb, things like youtube loaded faster on the 2g 32gb one!! i got another 64 gb one thinking it was faulty and same! i was gutted! had to keep the 64gb cos the 32gb was too small for my music! i've only got 1gb of free space! gotta stop buying cds! if you can live with 32gb i'd 100% go for it! heat n rep.

Now out of stock

one thing i hugely love about the 3g is voice control!! i thought it would be a gimmick that i'd never use, how wrong was i,the lovely stainless steel back stays nice and fingermark free in your pocket while you pick songs / artists / playlists through the mic!!awesome! on a downside ,there's nothing more embarrassing than being caught talking into your headphone cable!llol.

My 2-year-old 2nd-Gen 16Gb iPod Touch developed a fault recently, the headphone socket loses sound in one ear if you move the headphone plug slightly.

It cost me about £160.
And to have it repaired (or actually, for Apple to swap it out for a 2nd hand model), Apple's quoting me £150.

(Sigh.)

On the quidco webiste it says that if you register for the first time to Sainsburys via them you get £5

It doesn't appear to be OOS ... I've just tried to order one and it's taking me all the way through to adding card details.

It says on the quidco site:

for a new customer registration and purchase via the grocery section of the site*

So I guess I wont get the extra £5, but not to worry this was a great deal. Thanks to the original poster. If you weren't lucky this time ask for a reminder as that is what I did and got one this time.

cheers

That's very, very poor. No wonder Apple's profits have doubled in the last year.

Why has this been expired ? It's still showing as in stock
#18
yep still in stovck from what I can see
#19
£3.73 already tracked on my quidco account.

Plus 373 nectar points which is probably around £1.865

So total price £186.67 - £3.73 - £1.865 = £181.075 not bad

That's interesting, the 3rd gen touch is supposed to have a faster processor, more RAM and an upgraded GPU so that sort of thing should be a lot quicker not slower.

My first gen touch has developed a fault in that the home button needs pressing quite hard for it to work, apparently it was a common fault and the design was improved on subsequent models.

They are great though!

Thats a common fault that develops with most earphones. Has happened to me loads of times. Chances are your iPod is fine. Have you tried replacing the earphones?

Out of Stock, if anyone is wondering why it's expired.

How dare you , that is NOT true! The 3rd gen consumes less energy because it uses a much more power efficient and quicker proccessor. And better graphics too!

It may have been when you posted but someone expired the deal hours before it did go out of stock!

Methinks someone has a case of premature expiration, a common complaint in the older generation. of which I'm one .... but I don't have that problem. Honest. :-D

Well just received mine today.

Is a bit annoying that it comes with the firmware 2.2.1 :-(
#27
Mine came too ... but it'll have to wait until Monday for my daughters birthday!

I have 2 questions I hope you can answer:

1. What's the latest version?
2. Let me guess, I have to pay for it?

Thanks

The latest version is 3.1.2 which I thought you had to pay for it. But when I plugged my Ipod to itunes it asked me to update to 3.1.2 and it did not charge me. So I have 3.1.2 now. Which gives you a lot of extra features and bluetooth.
I guess most of the latest apps don't work with the old firmware which could explain why they gave it to me for free.

Many thanks Asandino!
