Hi,

Been looking to get an itouch for a christmas present and have found this offer. I understand that the 'new' Apple iPod Touch 8GB, 3rd generation is actually the 2g which has been rebadged as 3g. (please can someone more knowledgable correct this if I am wrong).

This deal is for the 2nd generation.
The price has been reduced from £165 to £135.
Comes with a free case (there are 4 available all c£12).
You also get 260 points which in 4x deals gives you £10.40 of deals on a spend of £130 -i.e. if you use the £5 tesco discount - listed below. (updated)
You can go via quidco for 4% - quidco has just tracked and validated took about half an hour.
And there is a voucher code advertised on Quidco for a £5 saving TDX-DRET.
Collect at store saves the delivery charge.

Hopefully this is a good deal.

UPDATED - taking all the above into account - brings the price to
£135- £5 voucher - c£5 (quidco) - c£10 (4x Tesco Deals) - £12 (for a case) = £103

ps don't know how to post picture but have had a go - hope it works and is the correct way to do things

AFAIK the 2g and 3g are the same feature wise, but they do use different internal components.
I.e apparently the wifi chip is better

I'd just go for the 2g if they're cheaper

It's only the 8Gb 3g version that is identical to the 8Gb 2g version.

The 3g 32gb and 64gb versions are the ones with new, faster cpus and different broadcom wifi chips (wireless n capable and fm)

Its not really fair to compare the price of a refurb one tough. That said, we have bought refurb from Apple before and apart from it coming n a plain brown box, you wouldn't know it was a refurb,

But, if you take quidco etc into account, there isn't much difference in price anyway

Which is exactly the same as this one.

Apple have really confused people with this. Only the new 32 and 64 models have changed, i.e. more ram 256Mb, better graphics and faster processor.

Not true. The new one comes with the OS 3.0 update, and bluetooth at the very least.

Please people don't be fooled by apple's gimmick marketing. The new so called 8gb ipod touch is exactly the same as the old 8gb 2 gen ipod touch the only difference is new 8gb touch comes with 3.1 os and the old 8gb doesn't. Spend 2.99 on the OS for the old 8gb touch and you have the new 8gb touch and you save yourself some money. Both have bluetooth.

is tesco doing 4 points per £1 spend on everything at tesco or something or do i need to enter a promotional code to get 4x points as its only showing 260 points on the checkout.
FHM#15
Tesco now do 2 points for a £1 but when you swap the points, if you do so for deals with third parties, they are worth 4x. If you have used the voucher - the points would be 260 (when exchanged for 4x deals it would be worth £10.40). I will update the opening post as I put 270 points for the £135 spend instead of the amount with the £5 discount.

I think the OP has assumed that you will get 260 points, but you will convert this to vouchers worth 4 times the value when you redeem the points

All 2nd Gen Touch have bluetooth. However, you need to upgrade to operating system 3.0 to use it !
