This was known just as .mac

Correct, name changed from .mac to MobileMe

All you get in the box is a serial code - so will work fine with mobileme. Good price over the £59 apple want for it.

Repost: original post http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/306582/apple-mobileme-mac-12-months-subscr/ . I picked one up last week and renewed my MobileMe account with it. But as somebody says in the original posting CEX sell it for £35 see http://www.cex.co.uk/products/Computing/Software/Software%20-%20Apple/index.php?sku=885909242122&name=Apple%20Mobile%20Me%20(S)&mode=buy

Remember last year JL reduced their .mac software down to £19.99 i think. This is still a decent price compared to the official mobile me price though.

I'd be getting it, if i had an iphone. Syncs everything beautifully.

If you can find a store with 2 in stock then they are included in the buy one get one free on clearance software.

Unfortunately my PC World only had 1 in stock so I got Sims 2 Pets for Wii as the free item

Hi guys, I always thought of getting .mac/mobile me. But the price was really making me think twice. Luckliy after browsing quite a bit on the internet I have come across two different softwares which are FREE for everyone (MAC users).
Software 1) Download from www.fruux.com - that syncs ical, addressbook, favourites and btw its still in beta. they are improving it as days go by.
Software 2) www.getdropbox.com - an amazing software. Installs a folder on your mac (probably the same on pc) similar to the Idrive (from mobileme) and keeps it synced to a central server. This service is free upto 2gb of space online.

Honestly since I have got the above softwares, I have never thought about mobileme. BTW both softwares have written to Apple to be mentioned on the Apple software download list(got this info of fourms), however both have been denied as they are both trying to do the same job as mobileme but for FREE.

I love apple and their products, but I think we should not pay for services like mobileme! Hope this helps.

BargainHunter - I got mine on Sunday and the buy one get one free was still on in the Northampton branch although I had to take the cashier to the sign as she tried to charge me for both!!

For a free alternative for desktop file syncing you can also you Microsoft's Live Mesh which is free for a 5gb folder and now has a mac client. I use it for syncing files from my work Windows machine and my Mac. Very useful.

Don't get a .mac/mobileme account for the idrive function as Apple seem to have the server connected via a
dialup connection!! - it is painfully slow compared to the other options i.e. LiveMesh (I'm on an 8meg connection). However I love the push email and contact sync to my iphone so for me it's worth having MobileMe for those functions.

You do also get web hosting etc with a Mobileme account for iWeb created sites and photo galleries from iPhoto
