Apple recently updated this model and rebranded it the MacBook Pro. This is an "older" model, but it is a fantastic Apple laptop for the money.

"Machined from a solid piece of aluminum, the new MacBook is thinner, lighter, and more powerful than ever. NVIDIA delivers the most advanced graphics yet to MacBook for powering through 3D games, which you'll enjoy on the brilliant, ultrathin LED-backlit display. Click anywhere on the all-new glass Multi-Touch trackpad which doubles as the button."

Nice cheapest price I can find is £840.05 from Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/MacBook-2-0GHz-160GB-GeForce-SuperDrive/dp/B001I45U02/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1247253012&sr=8-1), so a good saving buying from Comet.

Available in-store or online.

I'm looking at these at the moment. Take care buying discontinued Apple products as often the replacements are better value. I don't think this Mac Book is great value. The old one is £799, the new one is £899.

For £100 difference you get:

1. 2 hours longer batter
2. 2.26ghz CPU not 2.0 CPU (that's a big difference)
3. SD card slot holder
4. Firewire 800 (way better than USB for external drives in my view)
5. Can take upto 8gb RAM (older one is 4gb I think)

If none the above is of any use to you then spend the £799. It's not a 'bargain' tho.... It would be a bargain at £650-700....

Two reasons I always give (I'm running Windows 7 and Apple stuff at the mo)

1. Apple laptops are great investments, go look on [email protected] at prices. You pay a bit more, use for two years sell for half what you paid for it. You also get great built in software that you would have to pay over £100 on Windows.

2. An end to the Operating System deteriorating from the day you start using it. I've lost count of the number of Windows reinstalls I have done. I've NEVER had to reinstall OS X and that's after upgrading it twice!

3. There is a great Apple community out there. That's great firstly as there are lots of smashing applications that do little jobs that you just can't get for WIndows and cost nothing or $10. Secondly if you do have a problem people out there can tell you how to fix it. I've never been able to 'fix' Windows.

I still keep running Windows as I have things I like to run on it but for your general computer use Macs are reliable and easy to use.

Yeah but you gotta keep an eye on these older models and when they are down to the last few they will drop the price.....

Parallels Desktop makes a Macbook beat any other laptop around for versatility at the moment. Run XP / Vista / Win 7 with OSX smoothly !!

For £899 you can walk into John Lewis and pick up the new version with a 2 year warranty. Alternatively you get theapple shop to give you a discount...they seem to be able offer £55 of with just a little nudging and you can pick up a free printer (£60 cashback on a £60 printer!).

The £55 is the equivalent of the EducationalDiscount they offer. Also with my employer through the "perkz" company discount scheme you get 8% of the price of a new Macbook so its just making that available to everyone that asks....

Just for the record.......... if you know a student who is willing to buy it for you. (Price of a pint is normally a sufficient bribe) You can buy a Macbook Pro for the discounted price AND get £145 of a qualifying iPod. Now I think that is a hot deal.....

Hmmmm....how would someone considering doing that do it (not that I would of course)? What address would they put down? How would the ipod discount work? Wouldn't apple be a bit suspicious if the non student phoned up for support? Rep for a good answer! :whistling:
