Description:
The Apple MacBook MC516B/A is powered by a zippy 2.4GHz Intel® Core™2 Duo Mobile Processor P8600 and runs Apple's advanced Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard operating system. You'll have lots of room for your files on the 250GB hard drive, and 2GB of RAM allows for smooth multitasking.

This chic white model sports a tough polycarbonate enclosure, borrowing the revolutionary "unibody" design concept from the MacBook Pro. Impressively full-featured yet weighing just 2.13 kg, the Apple MacBook MC516BA is a hard act for any laptop to follow!

The first thing you'll notice when you open the Apple MacBook MC516B/A is how brilliant its 13.3-inch screen is: bright, vibrant, and sharp. That's because the MacBook has an LED-backlit display, which improves brightness while reducing power consumption. Battery usage is helped further by the ultra-efficient NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor, which offers improved performance over previous models when playing games, running graphics applications, or watching video - all with great energy efficiency.

In fact, this Apple MacBook has an impressive battery life of up to 10 hours per charge. So whether you're catching up with work on the train or doing homework in a café, this laptop will just keep going.

Of course, the Apple MacBook MC516B/A also boasts Wireless N networking, Bluetooth 2.1 EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, a sophisticated Multi-Touch trackpad, a built-in iSight camera, and much more! And like all Macs, it comes preloaded with OS X and iLife, ensuring you have everything you need to enjoy the best of digital music, photography, video, the internet and even the occasional text document - right out of the box.

I love the part where you stated the spec!

I'm not voting either way, but i LOVE the way Apple charge you more than double the price it's really worth because it's got an apple logo on.

yes it is... but costs you more :)
#10
its worth the £200ish more for sure
#11
Good price considering it's Apple. Depending on what you use it for though the 2Gb of RAM will really slow the machine down but can be upgraded easily
#12
Decent price, especially compared to the garbage MSI and Toshiba laptops that are posted regularly on here. RAM is stupidly cheap atm too.
#13
Great Price.

why oh why has it only got 250GB hard drive, and 2GB of RAM

Because it's Apple.

You pay hundreds of pounds more for the exact same components that are used in every other laptop. Be grateful that Apple is allowing you this privilege.

This is a really old model now*, and while it's a good deal as it's cheaper than elsewhere, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

*yes it's the current one that apple sells, but it's really behind schedule in terms of being updated.

This is an incredible deal. Despite the specs, Mac OS X will still blow away a Windows machine even running the latest Sandy Bridge processors. Buy! Buy! Buy!

The Apple snobs are hilariously pretentious. If anyone has ever been in their Regent Street Store, you'll know what I mean when I say the staff act as if they're minor celebs instead of the sales personnel they really are! Their customers are stereotypical, up themselves, pretentious tw*ts, you know the type, Guardian reading, Waitrose shopping, more money than sense. sneering at the plebs who choose to spend their money more wisely instead of on some over-rated crap with a sad logo on it. The iphone is a case in point - absolutely crap product, forever cutting out, susceptible to the slightest bit of moisture in the air, and overpriced to the nth degree. Bought one for my son, and it was in the bin a few months later - total waste of money. And yes, I've tried an Apple laptop, a supposedly top of the range model as it was a couple of years back - what a load of overhyped rubbish that was. Traded it in and went straight back out and bought a decent laptop.

We not only get the food snobs on this website, but the computer snobs, the phone snobs, etc etc. If these idiots have so much money they choose to buy overpriced rubbish, why on earth are they on here at all with the rest of us plebs who are bargain hunting? Maybe so they can massage their massive egos by boasting about what THEY can afford to buy, irrespective of whether it's any good or not. Little do they realise, most of us are laughing at their pathetic posturing.

Wow, you must almost be missing an entire arm judging by the huge 'chip' in your shoulder. By your accounts, anyone with more money than you is a snob, that anyone with equal too or less money than you is a pleb and that this site is for plebs.
Maybe thats a good idea. Maybe everyone should disclose their financial status in order to register with anyone over 30k being permanently excluded and their IP address blocked. Obviously we'll have to take into account their other assets such as equities, shares and properties which will be a little complex but no bother.

Did you ever (maybe) consider that not all people neatly fit into the beautiful mahogany boxes that you have so elegantly carved out for them?

"I'm off to do my food shopping with Ocado online on my brand spanking new Mac. Oh wait, is there an app for that., I could do it on the go? Perfect, great opportunity to undergo some posturing and laugh at all the plebians who think they can mock the so mighty. I shall have the last laugh as with the inordinate amounts of wealth I have accrued, I can weather the recession with the greatest of ease. Bwaahahah!"

I'll second that. I work a minimum wage job and am by no means a snob, yet I've saved when I can to buy apple products if I want them (currently imac, iphone and macbook air). I don't read the paper, but if I do, it's usually the Sun, or Mirror, or eve the Star......only because someone has left them at their table where I work (in a bar).

I know a dozen people who've switched from Windows to Mac who have been more than happy with the switch. We are in fact the ones laughing at the likes of you, with your need for virus protection and driver updates everytime you plug something new in.

p.s I shop at Morrisons.

Angus you are indeed an idiot, but while you pontificate the merits, or lack there of, of apple product owners, i'll sip down on my starbucks coffee while reading my copies of the times, independent, mail and just so I can look down on the low-life sub-human sc*m, or plebs as you put it, I'll quickly flick through my copy of the Star all while reclining in my Lazeeboy chair, on my many days off counting my piles of cash breaking every now and then to light a huge cuban cigar with a crisp new £50 note, I may even partake in the viewing of the plebs on the Jeremy Kyle show while checking my stocks and shares from my ipad.

You fool!

Its a great price for this current model, so if you really need a MacBook now, go for it.

But I would be tempted to wait a few months. Thats because the MacBook Pros have been refreshed with new processors and extras just last week. I think the MacBooks are not too far off a refresh - currently, supply of the new processors is a constraint, so I would expect new MacBooks sometime in May/June. And definitely by July, as that's the start of the back to school buying season, one of the key markets for the MacBook.

Apple does not dominate the computer industry, do you actually have a clue what your talking about?
#29
Regarding the harddrive, it is so easy to do yourself, and the fact it is so easy, Apple let you do it WITHOUT voiding the warranty! (this is not the case however with Macbook Pro's).

I am a computer idiot, but I changed mine to a 320gb drive with ease.

That might very well be the case, but the deal is whats important! And seeing as this is a Dixons deal and not an Apple Store deal, then you don;t even have to worry about seeing these people! And seeing as though he was quite specific about a store in London, I have had very pleasant dealings with staff in the Belfast Store, so for every bad experience there surely has to be one good experience, at least! However, you very rarely hear good news stories on HUKD, more reasons to avoid shops, deals, etc etc.

You're right. Apple only dominates the MP3 and tablet market. They are about the 4th or 5th biggest manufacturer of computers in terms of market share.

However, they do dominate the 'premium'/high-end computer market. Basically, people with money and means tend to purchase Apple computers.

Good deal for this bearing in mind you can't get it cheaper elsewhere. However, the white polycarbonate Macbooks should be at least £100 cheaper than this price in my opinion. They scratch very very easily compared to the aluminium ones.

Angus58 has issues. Seriously, try to be subjective.

This laptop is 100% worth it, superb operating system, superb hardware and build quality, a screen that you will not beat with any brand, speakers are superb. Plus even with 2GB ram it will be quicker than any windows PC with iProcessor and 4GB ram.

I'm an iPhone developer and use this machine daily and what you've said is just not true, especially with 2GB of RAM in it.

OS/X devours RAM something rotten, and when you have xcode and a couple of browser windows and a paint package up, the OS is swapping to disk constantly, and it's very slow. IMO windows performance degrades very gracefully when you have tons of applications open, with OS/X it's a bit of a brick wall. If you're using the macbook for anything serious, you'll be wanting to get another 2GB of RAM in it. The macbook can't take 8GB sadly, unlike the mbp, so if you're wanting to do 3D or video editing, the mbp is the way to go.

Don't get me wrong, I love my macbook. The OS starts instantly when you lift the lid and it's ready to go in under 5 seconds (from hibernate), and windows doesn't do this so well. It's totally silent, tiny, has a dvd burner, etc. It's really very very good, and the keyboard is fantastic. It's also powerful for its form factor. The equivalent size, weight, battery-life and power of windows machine can't really be had for much less than £450-500 notes, so it's a common fallacy amongst mac haters that it's twice the price of a windows pc.

However, for me it's a tool and I neither love it or hate it. I paid £770 for mine almost a year ago, so this is slightly cheaper. I'd be hoping that this will get even cheaper in a month or two, but I'd vote this deal hot anyway.

Only reason Apple dominates the computer industry is if you want to go for Apple system you have no choice its just Apple. On the other hand go the PC route every one makes them so you have choice thats why they are much better value. As for dominating industry would think there are a lot more PC,s than Apples .As for this deal its great price for Apple voted hot but be expensive for PC laptop of this spec

Not from my experience. I found the Regent St staff nothing but helpful during the Christmas peak a year or so ago. I was also in Cardiff's store on the weekend helping my friend buy a MacBook Pro. The girl who helped us was sweet, helpful and joked along with us about his intentions to waste the potential of a MacBook Pro on using Skype and watching porn.

An apple might be twice the price as other brands on the market. So go out and buy the cheaper model. But be prepared to be buying another in 18 months time. Got my Mac 4yrs ago now still going strong. And I wouldnt go any other way now, So this is Hot.

Ok so perhaps when doing some serious multitasking maybe, but considering all the other factors, just put a little bit more ram in it!

good laptop, OK price but needs updating

10hr battery life kills most laptops available
good processor, but now ageing
OSX rocks, and you can install win7 or ubuntu if you really want

but i expect an update in the next 2-3 months along with mac mini
