Or people that use their pcs for actually doing stuff, not buying into an image or brand which they believes gives them 'personality'.

Here begins the merry-go-round of pointless apple/windows arguments.

All we need to know is is the price the best for the product. Not people of such self-importance they think people actually care about their opinion. If you are going to comment on the product itself then please only do so if you've actually used one or at least held one. I can guarantee all the negative comments are from people who haven't even seen one in the flesh!
#13
Would get one, but can't turn them on or actually do anything on them.
#14
...ohh forgot to mention that I can't actually afford one either.

Actually i didn't vote at all. Thanks.

Waste of money, isnt a hot deal as the specs are garbage for the price regardless of what it is(a flimsy piece of junk).

As usual, the clueless Microsoft zealots come out of the woodwork spouting guff that may have had some truth to it 5 - 10 years ago...

- Microsoft haven't been propping up Apple. They made a one-off payment of $150m over TEN years ago, and in return were allowed to use some Apple UI ideas in Windows without being sued.
- When compared like-for-like, it has been proven many times, that Macs & Windows PCs are comparable in price. In fact particularly at the high-end, Macs are often cheaper for what you get (such as built-in Bluetooth, Wi-fi, Webcam as standard, not build-to-order extras).

If you're going to post inaccurate information, at least back it up with a few links to independent reputable web-sites, such as these:

Why can;t people just accept that there is a choice of operating systems and hardware and that some people choose differently to them. Not everyone uses a computer for the same reason you do, people have different requirements. Just enjoy the variety we have and stop bashing people (and deals) because you don't have a need for their product.

Apples are 'usually' used by professionals who need high end performance (saw tooth technology), a mac 1.6GHz should whip a standard windows PC hands down.

I use windows PC's but appreciate macs are far superior, I personally just don't get on with them :)

Alternatively you could buy from Dixons (normal price there £1139) then use your Egg card for 5% instant cashback, costing you £1082.05
#21
not sure if this is the same, but selling at £1020.46 at Dixons Tax Free!! No discount code, no quidco required. Just call them to book if you are flying through one of the airports!

Because the price is the main thing that makes a deal hot?

Actually, having seen one of these on a stand myself I was surprised at how thick it was given all the fuss apple are making over it. It's the laptop equivelent of the Motorola Razr. Thin enough to be stylish, but nowhere near awsome enough to become a must-have. I haven't hefted it though, so if it feels extremely light as well I can see that'd be a plus point.

Instead with a PC you get DVI ports as standard, USB ports that are usable and not hidden round the back, and a computer that you can add things to. You pay your money and you take your choice.

Eh? What? A 1.6Ghz mac likely uses the exact same Core 2 Duo that's found in a PC.

As someone who's about to spend £1500 on a desktop and 24" monitor and has had a 24" iMac in the house for the last couple of months I can firmly debunk that statement. The iMac is a fine machine if you like the styling and can live with the limitations but it's certainly not in the same league as a PC.

thats a good price for the product, but it so over priced and specs are no way near amazing, once again apple wows us all with thier design thats how they make most of thier sales people dont really care what specs its got as long as it looks good they will buy it. i think apple are getting very cocky with thier products they dont ever reduce thier prices for products and if you want to sell thier products you wont belive how much mark up you get its disgusting and their so arrogant just because they have got an monopoly with the ipods. but i have to agmit thier products are quality but expensive and they really need to have some sales ive never seen a sale sign in a apple store, when was the last time an mac book pro was reduced?
#24
oh my god jus noticed theres no cd/dvd drive are you kidding me? £1100 for a laptop and has no cd/dvd drive. oh and it only has 1 usb port thats very handy.
#25
i dont see how this is more portable than a standard laptop. the weight of a standard lappy isnt really the issue, its the footprint it takes up in use, which will be the same ????? The asus eee is portable, this is just a thin laptop, dont get it. Still need a big laptop bag to carry it round.
#26
This machine is designed for a specific market if it does not suit what you want then you are not the target. Don't flame it because it's a Mac there are only a couple of computers around (Mac or Windo$e) in this market. If you don't fit the demographic keep your rants to yourself, and buy an asus eepc. It will sell without your support.
#27
Whenever the Air gets mentioned it seems to generate a lot of ‘Hot Air’ amongst folk.
Thanks for sharing (venting), I suppose it’s cheaper than therapy. :?

Quite correct. Bearing that in mind though, do HUKD users fit that demographic? I very much doubt it, all we really want is cheap dvd's, LCD TV's and Dell lappys (of so it seems for the most part). For myself i'd rather buy a normal more functional machine:thumbsup:

I kind of think the voting should be done on the product deal itself rather than whether you think a different platform is better. It's like the ps3/xbox threads with each fanboy voting cold or hot just because they like/dislike the platform. Probably it's going to be more useful for everyone if it was voted hot or cold on whether the deal itself is good...

You've got to decide where to draw the line. Few people indeed are going to care about the brand of a basic 8GB flash drive and such things should be compared between each other and the cheapest voted hot. But on the other end of the scale you've got things like this macbook air. Do you compare it against other <1.5kg, 1.6Ghz, 12-13" laptops or do you make an exception because Apple's marketing machine has done so well and people will be looking for this one specifically? How popular does a product have to be before it gets an exception and is only priced against itself?

Obviously the untruthful rants and cold votes 'because it's apple' aren't helpful either way.

Seriously, the real arguments for the Mac v PC debate are not to be found on here but I found them here:
Mac vs. PC:p

I have also found the debate which includes Linux:
Mac vs PC vs Linux :-D

Enjoy!

Oh the irony of using a $ sign in Windo$e when comparing it with Mac.

Overpriced on an under spec, I rather get a MacBook Pro instead. Problem with Apple they use inferior parts each year and lie about it. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/04/01/apple_imac_class_action/

Compared to the Sony Vaio TZ series it isn't actually that bad value, the Vaios being the only comparable laptop for the MacBook Air currently.

Don't they have dvd drives either? Another one to avoid:p

Not everyone requires a DVD drive, obviously you do and that's fair enough but some people don't and this may suit them.

Tbh I never use the DVD on my laptop, it's been replaced with a 2nd hard drive (gotta love the IBM ultrabay ;-)). But for the price I would expect them to include a DVD drive so I had the option.

Wifi and webcam as standard?? most 400+ laptops have both, and most 250+ have atleast one, bluetooth? whats the point if it means that much get usb bluetooth for a few quid.
