excellent saving. i'm using one these now!
#3
good deal, still cant make my mind up if i should jump to a mac!
#4
Good Deal!

It comes out the same as the HE student discount though - so no better for me. Go for it Armsey, these laptops are fantastic with either OS X or Windows installed on them. At normal prices I think they are just a little overpriced though.
#6
Good price - currently £749 on apple website - refurbed for those who cant get to comet

http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/specialdeals/mac?mco=Nzc1MjQxMw

bought my macbook last year best computer i've ever owned :D

Wondered how long before this made the jump from AVforums. Its nice to see a deal cheaper than the higher education discount for once.

Don't forget quidco

It is roughly £773 with higher education discount, so you're saving about £27, plus a bit of quidco if you get it,

BUT...

if you can get the HE discount, you can also buy the applecare for only £46 (normally £195), get £60 cashback on a new printer bought at the same time. Also, in the first 14 days if you change your mind, you don't like it, or you find out they just bought out a new model, you can get a refund it, and buy a new one if you want.

I missed out on the free ipod offer, just bought mine about a week ago. Be prepared for some sleepless nights..!!

play.com was selling the XL size black for £18, they just put it up to £22.

BTW, with the £60 cashback on a new printer, you can get a brand new printer for as little as £10, but the ink usage cost alot on that one.

I got the photosmart plus £130, £60 cashback, so cost me £70. It has wireless, prints pretty fast, and scans well. The genuine catridges are resonably priced, £18 (with a 800 page Page yield;

I've tried printing photos from my iPhone wirelessly on it, works flawlessly.

My only concern (I've reserved one for collection tomorrow) is the fact that:-
1) through the HE store I would probably upgrade the Ram and HD, plus take out the AppleCare - no such option at Comet. BUT the cost would go up to approx. £900 !!
2) the rumours of a refresh to the Macbook range in Jan with a speed bump to the CPU's.

Decisions......decisions????

I upgraded my hard disk to a 500gb one on the first night.

a pair of 2gb (total 4Gb) for it cost about £65.

it's childs play changing the hard disk or the ram on these things.
#14
have you checked out the macrumors buyers guide for estimated times when they will refresh or bring out new model.

Honestly, I can't wait 2 days for it let alone 3 months.

Btw, I think if you customize the standard spec (upgrade hard disk or ram etc.. on factory order or obviously after you get it), your machine is excluded from their 14 days return refund terms, look in to it if you are going to do it.

My Aunt bought the iMac,,,,,, the old one only days before the new one was announced (i didn't know anything about the purchase until a few days ago), she bought it from a non apple shop, and she couldn't return it as she didn't buy it from apple direct. Do read their sales and returns terms.

What RAM and hard drive did you install?
#17
My basic 13" macbook pro actually came with a Hitachi drive instead of the seagate that they first shipped with, they had some issues with the early drives.

I've installed a Seagate 500Gb, 5400rpm. Obviously 2.5" SATA2. (been using it on my ps3, got it out of the iomega from tesco a few months back)

I haven't touched the ram yet as I wanted to see how well this thing will cope with only 2Gb of it and more than likely the price will come down,
#18
Top notch. Just ordered mine for pick up tomorrow at my local store. Does anyone know if this has snow leopard with it? I know it says leopard but just wondering.....
#19
Super deal and if I didn't have the previous version I'd be tempted.

If it's only got leopard you should still qualify for the Apple up to date program but might be worth checking.

Have some heat

If you need one, and this meets your needs, get one now and enjoy it IMO! Then when it suffers it's demise in a few years or you get fed up of it you can get a better one

You could wait for 5 years, then 10ghz quintuplet core laptops with 16gb RAM, 4Tb hard disc, 20 hours battery life will be out for £500 a pop - and with your current approach you'd still be holding off for that next extra Ghz, ram and disc space! You'll never own one!
#23
Seriously am tempted
#24
Fraud not - it's in the manual. So long as you don't break it whilst doing it you won't void your warranty.

Why has nobody started bad mouthing macs like they used to do on every apple computer posting?
It makes a nice change tho!

Considering the high price, why do Apple use old defunct HD sizes, previous generation of Nvidia mobile chipsets, and ridiculously low RAM. Still a bit of a rip off, even at this lower price.

Point me in the direction of a small (sub 14") laptop with a better spec that can still keep up with the 8 hours battery life that these machines can manage. It can't cost a penny more, mind. There aren't many that can come anywhere near, and you're not likely to find the sort of build quality that you see on these machines either. Good construction, good screen, nice finish and the trackpad is HUGE!

Bootcamp. That's what I'd end up using it for, OS X just winds me up (I have to use it from time to time and I just find Windows a lot easier, likely because I know it inside and out).
#35
the porter
exactly im thinking of jumping over to a mac but the screen size so puts me right off

IMO 13 inch is perfect compromise between portability and usability.

I highly recommend this laptop, have the same one except ive put a 256SSD and 4GB memory in it.

As for the previous comment about voiding warranty, you only void the warranty covering the original parts you replaced with 3rd party ones. Please only comment about things like this if you have experience in it, otherwise people might take your false statement to heart and not buy the laptop.

EDIT: By experience I actually mean, you have spoken to apple yourself (which I have) not read it somewhere on a random forum.

Yes I have which is why I said so, I was gonna buy one over the summer and upgrade it myself the guy at the apple store said to me, up to you mate cause once you change anything which is standard on the machine your warranty is gone. thats what put me off.
