I ordered one tonight.

I just got the Virgin credit card which has 15 months 0% on balance transfers!!
I'm gonna save some cash into an ISA then after 12 months when that's up I'll have earned some interest on that - then I'll just pay it off the card in one go.
#7
Great price but ..Ive just bought an acer aspire for £99 at tescos.
The Apple is much better but 8 x dearer is it really 800% better ??

Don't forget the 3% cashback @ TopCashBack, that's another £24 off the price. Mine has tracked today.
If anyone wants an invite to TopCashBack please PM me I will be happy to help. :)

mann242, you can't compare a £99 PC laptop to a Mac laptop, I'm not even going to start. This price the MacBook is a great buy more heat should be added to JoeUK's deal as it is a very good find. Thanks again JoeUK

Cheers Gav.

Yeh there's too much that's different between the Acer and the MacBook to compare. I'd be here typing for quite a while with the differences. I also have an Advent/ MSI Wind - so I too love the netbook range. The MacBook really isn't a netbook, it's a fully featured laptop. I think the major difference is the fact that it's running OS X. You'll find that the people who know what that is and use it, they really regard it as the best OS. Unfortunately though, you have to pay for it. I wish it was cheaper but it isn't. Just like I wish an Aston Martin would be cheaper. The fact is that you pay for quality in everything, not just computers.

I have managed to do a hot install OS X on the MSI Wind but after using it for a few months It's really buggy - as Apple haven't designed OS X to run on that hardware. So you end up trying to get workarounds and make compromises. ;-)

Near £200 for an alluminium finish? Must admit iv always been a pc user, but im very tempted atm for a change to mac, but that price gap is beyond me when all the specs,(graphics, ram, cpu, display, battery life, etc etc.), seem to be the same

agree doesnt seem much difference apart from aluminium body, ambient light keyboard, multi-touchpad, shared DDR3 graphics and DDR3 RAM. i think the aluminium casing is stronger/scratch proof? and lighter.

DDR3 is a good sign, it probably definitely merits the extra £200ish but i think il give this a miss and go all out for a pro in the future so it will hopefully last me a very long time for the money

One of these days we'll finally make the plunge
Just very expensive and money doesnt grow on trees, especially with deals popping up left right and centre on HUKD. But then again i dont think iv read one review where someones been reluctant to spend the cash and regretted it, its always 'best decision iv ever made!' etc. :p

Comparing Apple to Acer is like comparing Ferrari to Skoda.

This is the best 13.3' laptop in the world and worth every penny.

Don't know about that, Dell and Sony do some pretty comparable high-end offerings too. It's certainly Apple's best 13.3" laptop though.

More like comparing a Volkswagan to a Skoda! Both essentially share the same parts inside but you're paying a premium for the badge and better build quality for one. And the other offers value for money.

True, though i guess if ive just spent a grand say on a laptop, i'd be reluctant to say it wasnt the best decision ive made or maybe not lol

It's really not, the screen is far inferior to the Macbook Air's 13.3" screen for a start. Plus, a Mac is no good for someone who needs windows to do their job, so the "best" laptop is the one that does everything YOU want it to, so will be different for everyone.
#28
Great! A laptop that costs £800 that is no better than everyone else's £400 machines.

I'll never understand the Apple obsession. I will continue to happily welcome the occasional blue screen of death in windows for the sake of saving £400.

You can install and run windows on a mac. So you can have both os if you want And switch between them whenever you feel like it.

Please show me a £400 machine with DDR3 ram, nvidia graphics (not intel tat), LED display, wireless N and 5 hours battery life.

I bet you can't :)

Yes, there IS a premium for Apple stuff. But no-where near what you are suggesting.
#33
You are paying for the build quality, the looks, the spec and for OS X. If you dont want to pay for that and you are happy with a £400 laptop then why are you in this thread? Are you bored or do you just hate apple as much as some people on here love them.

Dont buy it if you dont want it. Simple. There are so many people on here who havnt a clue what they are talking about yet they are quite happy to tell others that they shouldnt get something because it is not worth it.

All cars will get you from A to B but people still buy different ones. I wonder what all the people on here that slate offers that they have no idea about have for a car. Is it the cheapest one that does the job?

I'm not one to defend Apple's pricing strategy, but I do agree with you to a large extent. PC notebooks of an equivalent spec and build quality will usually be of a fairly comparable (or slightly cheaper) price. The main advantage on the PC side comes in the fact that manufacturers and retailers will often do special offers in which significant savings can be made (Dell are a good example), whereas that almost never happens with the Macs.

Apple don't cater for the low or mid-range budgets; that's their decision and also their loss seeing as that's the section of the market where most sales occur. But they certainly know how to advertise and sell to the higher-end market.

I made the switch to Mac last Oct/Nov... when the new Macbook came out - if you give it a chance (changing from Windows) most tend to love it... the multi-touch may sound a small plus if anything but seriously.. it saves so much time. The main thing that most people don't realise is that yes you may pay £300 ish extra to a same 'spec' type machine (without the good finish) but when/if you come to sell it, your gonna get a good chunk of your money back!... try selling a dell/acer laptop for example... no-ones gonna pay diddle squat for it.

Multi-touch on OS X is pure genius, the gestures are bang on and just make you wonder how you did without them before. Apple laptops are stylish, and if you think about every other industry in the world, style counts for a hell of a lot in terms of price, cars, clothing, houses etc. Apple laptops are a blend of form and function, clean lines and well thought out, with a great keyboard, the best trackpad I've ever used, sturdy small and light.

I do have one or two gripes about their laptops, in particular heat management under Windows is appalling. If something goes wrong its a lottery whether you get it fixed, just depends on the "Genius" who you see, you either get the older guy who isn't fussy and if you're not happy will try and fix, or the egotistic 25 year old rude patronising idiot who refuses to acknowledge the problem regardless of how obvious it is untill you ask for the manager.

I bought a Macbook Pro on education discount, and overall I don't think I'd have got the same experience and productivity on a similarly priced PC, regardless of how powerful it was. Whether that's the same for everyone I don't know, just my opinion.
