£40 cheaper than yesterday. Still on the expensive side, but cheaper than the rest, especially apple store!

don't buy a baby mac. For the same money look around for a i7 1080p windows 7 machine.
Or pay up and look big and get an i5 macbook.

lol :p

Thats within a tenner of the education price, not bad at all.

However from the Apple store these cost the same as the new 11" Air, and for most people they will be better of with the Air IMO.

Not everyone would be happy to have a 1.4 GHz CPU instead of the 2.4 GHz on the Macbook...that's a lot less power
#6
But the SSD in the Air more than makes up for that, which means it actually feels a lot snappier and boots faster.

slap an ssd in this for 100 and you get both :-)

Except this will still weigh twice as much, not look as nice and have a lower resolution screen!

£740 quid for a microscopic laptop that does less than a PC?? pass lol

But have no optical drive or ethernet port, which could be important to some. The Air is style over function more than ever

I see your point. But if there was a car that was twice as fast, twice as reliable, twice as functional, 50 times more compatible with different road surfaces, cheaper road tax, cheaper to insure all for the third of the price, wouldn't you want it instead?

The PC is said car, and your Mac is the fiesta!
#17
Cant really reccomend these over the pro, the plastic is a scratch and dirt magnet.

Im also suprised at the lack of jealous anti apple windows fanboy posts on this thread, not that its a bad thing :p

The i7 pc post made me chuckle a bit though.

Stopped reading when you said twice as fast. You seem to forget that pcs use windows, the slowest os available. Personally i prefer an os which doesnt have slow down when attempting to open more than 2 tabs in an internet browser.

"The PC is said car, and your Mac is the fiesta!"

I understand what your saying now, there's more chance of a Yamaha R1 crashing, than a steady eddie fiesta !

**** for residual prices of a 5year old macbook compared with a 5 year old PC Sony Vaio for instance, one is still fetching £400 the other lucky to get £50 !

a Mac is for life not just for Christmas

PC's don't just run Windows, Linux computers still count and besides, Windows will still run faster on a modern spec than any Mac that you can buy.

I don't even mind Macs too much, it has its uses - be it ONLY Final cut pro for movie video editing. I'm completely unbiased and I don't hold any loyalty to anyone; I just pick whats best for the money.

Thomas Edison once said that he always worked out the success of his inventions by how many of them he sold. I would say it's a fair policy, and by that token - Windows PC's sale a lot more than Macs.

As with most things Mac, its best to ignore pesky specs and instead focus on the shiny, the shinier it is the faster it runs (apparently). ;)

buy a mac just not this one. the pro.

Ford sell more motor cars than Ferrari, so by that fair policy Ford are more successful

Very bad advice.

Most real computer users will barely use the power of even a basic MacBook for at least the next few years.

This I can agree with, for a hundred more, the MacBook Pro has a few key extra features. I dont want to own a computer without a backlit keyboard ever again

Somewhat true, some people would make use of the ethernet and optical. But the industry/market is definitely moving towards wireless and download installs etc.

I think a lot of people get on well with Netbooks, and the new air is very much Apple's netbook, but with a ton more class and power.

I think the regular MacBook will still be the more popular one for a while though

Don't tell anyone but there's a thread for an Apple computer that has reached a decent temperature. oO

My new Macbook Air has just 'prepared for shipment', can't wait.

Haters gonna hate, etc etc etc

Yeah i was just generalising. I still use windows pcs for gaming and visual basic, and yeah a decent spec pc will be better than any mac, but your forgetting this is a NOTEBOOK.

You wont find a better 13 inch notebook with the same portability and durability as well as battery life. Yes theyre expensive compared to DESKTOP pcs, but the difference there is that i can put a macbook in a messenger bag witch all my books and study materials, and get 10 hours usage out of it wherever i go. My desktop however is sitting at home where i cant access it all the time.

Getting this for my teenage daughter. My son has an iMac and asked me to do a full system restore when he was in school. Well for a few hundred more I'll be getting an iMac for myself next year. Gone will be the days of ....Windows is shutting down to install updates, configuring update, all the countless errors, security patches the list goes on.....I have been using windows for 12 years and had never used an apple computer. Well, I have to say, less than 1 hour to install and update all his programmes. Vista nearly 24 hours to do the same, and this time next year 7 will be catching up with Vista. I liked windows, but I love apple. They are over priced I agree. But for the extra money, it will save me a lot of time and stress. Start, run, regedit, and the control panel are to become a thing of the past in this house.

Beautifully put Smithers, however windows make operating systems not pc's.
Apple just announced $20b revenue. Also sold 4 million Macs, Edison would be impressed.

Macbook is a great machine, price ok, can get cheaper on the Apple site in the refurb section (currently one there for £719, I've seen the entry machines at £649). Refurb Apple Macs are just as good as new and normally come with the latest release of software.

PC or Mac it's your decision, seems to be a recurring argument, shame most of those that argue only ever see one side therefore offer a biased (and rather useless) opinion.

Haha. I love reading anti-Apple people get themselves all worked up and argumentative about nothing. Entertains me no end. No-one's suggesting you part with your beloved PC and buy something you don't want (...or can't afford). The time grumbling could be much more effectively spent pricing up their next PC upgrade.
#36
Or saving their work before BSOD..
#37
Neither Macs or PCs are perfect computers. Both crash like crazy.

With Mac you're buying into desirability
#38
So with a pc your buying something nobody wants..

Now that's why I don't buy mac's anymore.

I started with an LC 475 then then Quadra 800 etc etc
I'm not a pc or mac lover! Just love good kit. But the prices macs charge are just not worth it.

Like developing an iPhone app on your PC, not being bugged by millions of malwares or eyesored by an ugly UI?
Apple sell an ecosystem simply not available in the Windows world.
