Why are they calling it Black Friday? It was last week in the US and we don't have Thanksgiving. Will be looking out, though the US one wasn't that great.

No idea I got that from the link, I understand it's quite a big deal in the US.

It's the Friday where retail stores begin to take profit for the year.

Last year the only thing that noticeably changed was the price of the Airport Express. The price didn't go up after Black Friday. I kind of expect them to reduce the price of the Apple TV or other such devices that are not selling brilliantly.

If the are to reduce only the goods with disappointing sales then you might expect the AppleTV, iWork package, and maybe the airport express again. Other common sales packages include rebates on cameras and printers.

Yep, this a US thing - they had it last Friday and certain malls were doing buy one item, get second for a dollar - shame I returned to the UK on Tuesday :(

They probably won't have much tbh, we get up to 17% discount through my work place but nothing off the iPhone!

Why not change your nationality to American after which you may feel compelled to sue the SOBs.

This is now on - £7 off the ipod shuffle or nano, up to £21 off the classic, some deals on cases - no discount on the ipod touch
#10
Some good deals really, money off everything. If you were going to buy a mac nows the time to do so!!

Also don't forget 3% quidco!

Mind you, can still can the ipod classics cheaper elsewhere with money off vouchers etc.

Wonder if they will have more discount off the HE education store too for us students ;-)
#11
Sadly it's the same offers as the US site last week but with smaller reductions. eg. the americans got a $100 discount off their macbooks and imacs and we get about £30.

Just checked with apple. They can't give 2 discount at a time. Either you have to go for HE discount OR Black Friday offer!:x

I've just logged in through an employee discount link we have through our intranet and I get discounts on top of the Black Friday ones :-D

Not much though:

iPod Classic £139 instead of £148
iPod Nano £86 instead of £92
MacBook £626 instead of £668
iMac £720 instead of £768

And more...

Still thinking about it...:whistling:

Kids celebrate Thanksgiving in schools though probably not as widely as in decades back.

Black doesn't mean bad its called this as its regarded as the first day of the year that US stores go "into the black" ie. make a profit. They're having it here probably as a pre-Xmas sale like most other retailers. They've done it at least the last two years or so.

That's quite good - nothing extra in the HE store.

I bought a 3rd gen ipod nano on Monday and had to take it back today as it was faulty. Exchanged it for another one and she gave me back the £7 difference too. Happy with that as it covered my train fare!
Well done Apple in Brum.

can you still get quidco on macbook purchases?

will the £23 discount code still work if the black friday is discount is applied?

I know they're cheaper (which is why I buy from the US), but the discounts are also bigger! It just rubs salt in the wounds really. Oh well, I bought my stuff from the States last week.

The deal below works out cheaper then the US if you're after a Classic:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120168

These are retailing at $250 + Tax (say 6%) = $265

Say the exchange rate is 2 for 1 = £132.50

Why not buy it here for £125 :p
