I don't know whether to get this or the WD TV Live Hmmm....

WD LIVE = £65.10
APPLE TV = 71.62

Apple has the best interface though. And you can jailbreak it, so lots of new stuff will be coming soon. There is all ready a internet browser and grooveshark client

This is an incredible deal. Apple TV is the best way to consume content in your home. If you don't know, Apple TV accesses all your networked iTunes content and brings it to life on stunning large widescreen displays seen in most homes today. You can also access a great content in the iTunes Store on your television. Renting movies has never been easier. I have two of these Apple TV and love them more than my Sky HD box and Sony Blu Ray player.

But you have to do quite a bit of converting for mkv , avi files etc which is annoying :(

Good deal considering how overpriced it is for what little it does. If you don't want to stream from an iDevice or pay Apple's overpriced rental fees, I would take the WD any day which supports pretty much everything. Even the vague hope of running Apps on it isn't enough to make this crippled device tempting.

It STILL does not support 1080p, which is pretty much unforgivable in this day and age. Voted lukewarm just for the price.

If I want to stream an avi /mkv file from my laptop to my tv, will Apple TV not do this but WD Live will?

Agreed - if buying an apple TV makes you talk like that I'm out.

Which is exactly why it's not that useful for those of us with Divx, Avi or MKV files stored sensibly in things called "Folders" that we can "Share" on the network.

Apple TV is great if you have bought or rented all your stuff via iTunes but if you've sourced your media from other locations, then it's not so good.

guys you do not need to worry about converting files, you can (cough) jailbreak it ;)
#18
I have been looking into getting one of these, mostly to airplay stuff of my iPod. However, I can't stand iTunes and try to avoid it where I can, so unless it can be jailbroken to work with different media libraries it's not much use to me.

£99 is a pretty good price for this though, so £85 is even better.

I am anti apple but I'm adding heat as this is a cool tool and a good price (looking at the WD live myself!!)

Agreed on all that, but it's worth mentioning that it can be hacked to run XBMC (c/w its fantastic format support) and 1080p through the Crystal HD hardware add-on:

If you live in iTunes the Apple TV makes sense - and the Airplay functionality must be great if you have an iPad - but I don't convert stuff for iTunes so the WDTV Live would be better choice for now I think.

Has Quidco tracked for anyone? I made two orders, one for a bluray player and this, the blu tracked already, this hasn't.
#26
Cancelled and re-ordered, tracked this time.

Are you sure this hardware and software will also work with the new Apple Tv?
#28
XBMC is only for the 1st gen apple tv.
#29
None for delivery?

Code is not working. :(
