It's all here...

http://www.apple.com/uk/appletv/

£99 is RRP, so not a deal

Yep, it's this price everywhere - not exactly a deal

knowing apple...guaranteed to be a useless piece of junk with a mindfield of technical incompatibilities making it unusable for anyone unless you have a mac - even then you wont be able to view alot of content

im still waiting apple to fix
1) intermittent loss of connectivity to apple car stereo - caused when it doesnt like the non-apple device!!
2) free removal of drm that apple put into its music in the drm days - they still money..wtf....go swivvel! i use amazon now
3) unable to connect iphone 3g to itunes on a windows 7 64bit asus p55 based pc - known prob STILL waiting a fix 1 year later - 000's have this prob - using an xp p instead - joke!! this prob ALWAYS occurs after an IOS or ITUNES update
4) if apple can do an update without bricking my iphone that would be good - and no my iphone isnt unlocked!
5) able to play ALL content from itunes on my pc or server via my xbox (part msoft, part apple prob) - you would think 2 dumb yank companies would cooperate and forget history

I have one of these (or at least the previous incarnation) and have never had a mac.
Brilliant piece of kit, easy to use and even if this is not a "deal" it is well worth the price.
Don't listen to those who have never seen the piece of kit, listen to those who have it and have used it.

can someone answer a couple of questions.

1: can this new version of apple tv be hacked for boxee/xbmc add ons?

2: once (if) hacked, can i plug my usb hard drive in the back of apple tv and play my locally stored movies without the need of a another computer?

i ask as i have an aging media center with xbmc and this sounds like a decent option but really need to know if i can plug in external hard drives into it

thanks

Well said. I use apple products for 15 years now, very pleased.

No, you'd be better off getting the "old version" which PC World are currently selling off at £150

That one can be hacked for xbmc

I quite fancy one of these but as others have pointed out £99 is the rrp.

Still going to go out and get one, brilliant for streaming music, movies, pics etc from the mac to the front room as well as renting movies from apple (you can not store you can only stream on this model)

720p only...
#13
Considering you can get a media player that will play anything, including 1080p MKVs, for under 40 notes, this thing is a piece of **** and COLD
#14
Might be interested if and when it can be hacked to play all media types.
