Went into my Tesco Extra and saw this on the self. Apparently was £18.99 in Oct/Nov 09 now down to £4.64. Two on the shelf. Checked online, not available. May be of interest to someone.

The image you posted looks like a USA fitting.

I got one of these with my Dingoo, and it looks just the same in black, also a 2 pin.

Wouldn't expect it to be a 2 pin in Tesco but I don't know.

You can get a 2 pin adapter for £1.

No it comes with the three pin UK plug. The pic is the only one I could find to link to.

These things have a usb socket, into which you can plug a usb cable to charge up whatever.

The good bit is on the other side.
It will take UK /US/wherever/whatever mains supply. 110/240v 50/60hz. Just connect it, no switches to set.

What makes THAT useful is that the plug fitting is interchangeable. While looking (and feeling) as though it is permanently attached.
Or you can plug in a standard cable with a small 'figure-8' fitting.
Or a rather expensive Apple cable that makes it look as though its permanently and neatly attached.
Using it on a cable means you don't HAVE to grovel around at ankle level.

Its just a mains to usb charger.
But a nice one.
Worth a fiver.

Very cheap considering its the genuine Apple article, but non-OEM alternatives are even cheaper.

This is the old model, hence why its reduced, but still a complete bargain!

I might be wrong, but Apple brought out the newer, more compact adapter along with the iPhone 3GS, as this older model does not provide it with enough power to charge it properly. It should work with all other iPods and iPhones, though.

This is what the above adapter looks like:

And this is the newer adapter:

I'd happily pay the extra for the Apple branded charger, my post was simply to make people aware that there are other non-Apple cheaper options available.

you can get non-official usb chargers for 99p delivered from hong kong. No point buying for the apple logo.

Not true..both power adapters have enough power, the 3GS doesn't require that much to charge it. The new model is just much smaller

Thats definitely true. I tried using my old ipod charger from my 20gb 4th gen ipod and nothing happened

How is that a suprise? They haven't made those chargers for years and this FireWire part hasn't existed in iPods for years either.

Been to two different Tescos in Glasgow and none of them have this on offer (even scanned it) - showing up as £20'ish

I beg to differ with comments that there's no point in buying apple branded chargers...
My macbook charger broke after 2 years so I replaced it with a non-branded one for a tenth of the price of a branded one which lasted all of 6 weeks!
:( bad times!
#22
Need to check instore tomorrow
#23
Does it come with the USB/Charge lead or is it just the adapter?
#24
Look's like the old one but still a cheap price, would prefer to buy this apple original than a third party.
