Just picked up a new Apple Wired Keyboard from Comet in Leeds for £23.80 (did the collect in store method from Web).

I checked the price online and it was £28.00, however they're running a 15% of Keyboards promotion at the moment using the Code 15KEY. I tried to use it at the checkout but it told me it wasn't valid on this purchase so I called comet on 08705 425 425. The guy at comet said it wasn't valid but I pointed him to there Keyboards Page that says 15% of ALL KEYBOARDS and he asked me to wait a second then came back and said he would apply the discount and give me a reference to pick it up in store for £23.80!
The code works fine for the Wireless Keyboard which works out at £39.95 from £47.00

Anyway I just though I'd share that with you as you don't often see Apple products on sales for much less than the Apple Store.

Cheers

Dave :)

These keyboards are the best. No wasted desk space and a lovely solid feel. Works great with ubuntu Linux too. They are very difficult to find at a discount.

shame there isnt a code for the apple mice

update:

Sorry - the code you have entered 15KEY does not apply to the item(s) in your basket.

That was for the wired but works for wireless - strange lol.

A great price, but im not really a fan of these keyboards. i use the wired one at work and find it to be a right pain. the keys are very sensitive and if you type quickly, its very easy to press another key as your fingers fly over the other keys. Other keyboads require more of a press to avoid this...

the wireless keyboard doesnt have a number pad and the keys between the letters and numbers, which is a bit of a pain. it also doesnt have an auto power off, so the battery will die if you forget to turn it off, although they last for ages if have a good memory!

a £40 keyboard? only apple....now I bet a mod will delete this message because we all know how politically incorrect apple criticism comments are.

The wired Apple keyboard is the best keyboard I have ever used. Wouldn't use any other now.

The mice look good and work well until the "nipple" becomes clogged every 6 months (which Apple will send you a replacement for free (express delivery)).

Why on earth would you want a Mighty Mouse? Even Apple fans admit they're pretty terrible, many of them dump them for Logitech stuff.

Not only Apple, Logitech, MS and many other hardware manufacturers sell expensive mice and keyboards for people who want something that's nicer to use. No harm in that.

Couldn't get on with the Apple mouse myself. The keyboard is wonderful however, and yes it does have an auto power off function.

Agreed: Other bluetooth keyboards are just as pricey. Quality costs money though!

yeh but normaly they come with quite a few extra features, small displays, programable buttons ect, the apple one has the fuctions of a keyboard from 1985. Looks / feels great though, but i still feel there overpriced.

Programmable buttons? Are you serious? Now that is so 1985. Just use the Keyboard Shortcuts in System Preferences...

I already regret asking this question but..............

Can you use this keyboard with a normal PC?
#15
yes you can.

Such a beautiful piece of design. It's like Ikea or Habitat or something. Worth £40 i'd say because you pay a premium on designer items. I think Jonathan Ive designed this. Lovely.

Hi, that's what I got originally so I called them and they applied the discount. Would probably be the same on the mouse.

Got an iMac last week... keyboard is decent... and very portable.. saves so much space in desk.. but being a previous windows user I do miss the might keyboard.. lol! the mouse that comes with mac is a pain.. i'd stay away from it.. swapped it in less than 10 minutes of using it. Using a Logitech one.

Yep, you'll need to download the drivers though.
#19
are there any other usb chiclet keyboards on the market yet? love the apple design, hate the apple layout. sony would be good, but unless you order a pricey spare for their 'media' pc systems they don't seem to have got into this market

Really? Is that just for the extra keys? Because I've used it on a few PCs before and never needed drivers?

I agree also about the mouse..Apple have NEVER designed a good mouse.
#21
It's a USB keyboard, so just plug in before you boot. Worth enabling 'USB Keyboard' in your BIOS first (if it isn't already) just in case though.

You might miss the 'Print Screen' key though (if you're regularly taking screengrabs and don't have a 3rd party tool installed). I've had one of the older Apple keyboards for about 4-5 years and it's fantastic, you might be able to pick one of those up for £20 now...worth every penny.

Also - the volume up/down/mute and CD eject buttons work (the latter only if you have one drive though - I now have 2 and it no longer works as an 'eject' button).
#22
For info: model A1048 is what you need to search for to find them on the internets...I've seen a refurb for £23.

The codes works on the Wireless items not the wired ones. Just to clarify. Just tried there on Wireless keyboard and it worked.

Yeah they seem to have removed the Banner saying the offer but the Code still works on the Items listed in this link: (supposed to be all comet's keyboards but for some reason excludes the wired apple keyboard)

It works in Vista for me. Obviously some keys don't work as they're for OSx only.

You may need to set it to US as well to get the @ in the right place.

I'll be using mine on my MAC though.

Yes I use my Mac keyboards on PCs - keyboards are keyboards, just like mice are mice. The only problem you will have is that the keymapping on Mac keyboards differs from PC keyboards - particularly the position of @ and " is reversed. Other symbols such as ~, € and ± are elsewhere on the keyboard from where you may have been used to.

How could you say such a thing? Did you never use the apple puck mouse? :whistling:
