cold... it's the arcade model...if you want a drive for it (without drive unit is next to useless), that'll set you back £80+
#3
Quite a good deal. The re-sale value of this decent set of games is only about £40 at Cex though.

As the above poster says, you'll probably want a hard drive - not £80+ though.

Oh.... and the wireless network adapter at £50.....
#4
Actually, some people do need a wireless adapter.

If like me, your router is in a different room to the console, you will need one.
#5
Arcade console - Cold tbh. A shame because the games it comes with are a great starting point! But XBL with all the arcade games and DLC but no HDD to put it on..

Thats right about the 'super flat'. Wired connections FTW!
#8
Hot, as mentioned by the OP if you're after a replacement console like me and you've already got a HD then all you need is a new arcade with the new chipset and HDMI out and to get the games as well makes this a pretty good bargain IMO.

This is a great bundle for the money, even if you do want to play online, for once it's good games, as a general rule for bundles there's always a budget or rubbish game.
Hot I think!

Sorry but that still don't mean you will need a wireless adapter......
Look for "Super flat" cat 6 cable it's cheap and amazingly thin(1.4 mm thick by 6 mm wide) so can be tucked away anywhere it also gives the best connection possible (even better than the new Xbox 360 wireless N adapter)..............................

The fact that the cable is flat, doesn't mean that you still won't want to hide it away. As I said, if your router is in a different room to the console, you'll still need to either drill holes in the floor or ceiling and hide cables in conduit, or rip carpets/wood floors up in order to hide the cable underneath. Or you could pay bt to put another telephone socket in the room where the console lives, and move the router.

All these options are either hastle or cost money.

Just make the ridiculously priced wireless adapter cheaper if you want to sell more consoles, would be my advise to Microsoft.

find a new 120gb drive for less ?
#14
Added heat. Its a great deal for those who have been left with a banned console and need a replacement, plus with three/four of the most online played games its a good deal.

Fair point, but there's 20 & 60gb ones too.
#16

Not wanting to get too caught up in the debate but you could always buy a cheap second router and just bridge the connection...

Either way still a very good price

Or use the homeplug things.

Anyway, I bought an arcade as a replacement a couple of weeks back - and would have ripped your arm off at this deal - hot.

People talking rubbish as usual on here. Why do you need a 120gb HDD ?

I just sold a copy of ODST for £24 on ebay, Fifa and Forza 3 go for around £20 each on there and a tenner for Gears 2. These are brilliant games, even after costs you could easily clear £60 selling the games on ebay if you can be bothered of course.

You can pick up 20gb HDDs cheap second hand £20 delivered quite easily I have seen several go for £16 delivered on Avforums.

So its a very cheap way of getting a 360, I still think the elite with these games for £200 is a better deal though as you get a headset and 120gbb hdd for the extra £50 which is well worth it IMO.

Wireless adapter ? Only idiots use wifi with a console - lag city for streaming video and online gamming complete waste of time. In terms of consoles and media streaming wifi is completely obsolete. Dlan homeplugs are the way forward you get the performance of a hard wired network with none of the drawbacks.

Why would a wifi connection make a blind bit of difference for online gaming, surely the speed of your broadband is going to be the bottleneck. As typically you'll get a 8mb or 16mb connection and wireless g is 54mb (depending on signal strength)

Also, just got a belkin n+ router, and can now seemlessly stream HD content, so wifi is far from dead in terms of streaming HD

and you have any evidence to back this up?
#24
What is the trade in price for an older console without the hardrive just need a quieter console for watching films with as our launch console makes alot of fan noise even when it is not playing a disc.
#25
does anyone know if this can be flashed (or indeed the elite that has also been posted), or will be able to be flashed in the future?
thanks
#26
Swap Gears of War 2 for Gear of War and swap Halo 3 ODST for Left for Dead 2 ... Now that would be a good deal !
#27
A good deal for that bundle, but if you are looking to get a 360 then you will need to buy a harddrive for it.

+1.

Not really noticed much difference between wired and wireless connections, in terms of lag.

Or as a way to protect your XBlive account which is what I'd buy it for... plus have a 20gb HDD spare AND was going to buy Forza 3 and FIFA10 anyway so this deal is HOT for me!!

It makes a huge difference with online gamming, with wifi by its very nature you will always get packet loss = lag as data has to be resent, it doesnt matter as much with media streaming as it can buffer music and sd video to an extent (except you cant stream true hd over wifi as it doesnt have the bandwidth)

At the end of the day everything interferes with wifi from wireless alarms to microwave ovens. Ok for browsing the web on a laptop thats about it really. My wireless router is in the basement I get 1 bar in the loft, barely an acceptable signal even for browsing the web let alone streaming media to the tv up there.

Anyway this is going off topic no point re going over how bad Wifi is and how much better dlan networks are for gamming, moving data around and streaming as this is well documented. Rest assured I would not buy a wifi adapter for an 360 personally or use wifi with a console for gamming under any circumstances. MY ps3 has wifi but thats pluged into a dlan adapter as well BTW, wifi just not fit for purpose for gamming.

Utter codswollop  I've used the 360 WIFI for gaming for years now and its NEVER been laggy, I host on COD6 and thats one place where you know if your lagging as everyone backs out, thats NEVER happened.

Suggest you class your connection problem as YOUR connection problem and not sway others with misinformed generalisations
#34
I have a 50meg line and a direct connection to my router and obviously never have problems  If you are using wifi I very much doubt you are ever hosting on MW 2....

Most of the time I am host on mw2, certainly for uk based players. Like I said its going off topic big time - what I am saying is well documented people saying wifi is as good as a hard wired connection either havent tried a hardwired connection or dont realise what a decent online experience is

Just a pointer for people just becuase you use wifi doesnt mean its good ! I had that argument for years with a friend with a wifi connection to his 360 thinking dlan was the work of the devil and would be hassle he coulnt believe how much better it was when he tried a couple of my adapters.

This is a good deal for people like me that have a ps3 but wouldnt mind having a 360 for the good exclusives. I would never touch xbox live, i simply dont play online enough to justify the cost, and tbh I think making people pay for a basic service such as online gaming is plain wrong. I already bought your console, your game, your accesories, and pay for a phone line, broadband plus Im using a licensed windows OS on my PC and now your demanding me to pay to use online multiplayer for COD. Your having a laugh MS. I dont know why people put up with it. Downloadable content is the same issue, although atleast you arent actually forced to buy it. And I wish sony didnt ram new FW updates down my throat every time I turn PS3 on and then refuse me my game until I update cheeky sods.

Even so the PS Trey doesnt charge you for the basic gaming right of online play. Atleast not yet, they are looking to introduce a pay service but it will essentialt make PSN a two tier service. Basic will be free, advanced service will be Pay. Anyway, ive hardly ever played a 360 but I would love to try out forza, Gears, Halo 3 and the superb looking alan wake. But still £150 is hard to justify when ive got a PS3 slim just recently. Incidentally my 120gb slim, 2 Dualshock 3 and littlebig planet and WWE 2009 was only £150 aswell brand new from some dodgey del boy type. But its been great. Although I did sell my (for £100) 40gb ps3 with cod3, gt prologue and 2 six axis to the guy that was gonna buy my slim package. So everyone was a winner as he primarily just wanted it for blu ray. The way sony have pretty much got rid of 120gb now is a joke. Just an excuse to make more money at xmas. Every PS3 bundle I see is a 250gb and always atleast £250. Theyve been very clever at doing that, as now the ps3 is only £20 cheaper than it was 2 years ago yet costs allot less to make.

My WRT54G wireless router adds approximately 2ms of delay. 2/1000ths of a second is not very much, but to say there is no difference between wireless and wired networks is technically incorrect. If you are adding an extra box in the middle of a connection, encrypting, reframing and decrypting, there will be some (admittedly very small) delay.

I tested the delay by running ping tests with and without the wireless connection in place.

HOT deal. XBOX HDD's can be forund very cheaply if you want to play online.
#37
Alera - No one is disputing that a direct connection isn't better than wifi, but you were suggesting that using wifi was useless when it's simply not the case. Many people use wifi as it's more convenient and the majority never suffer any problems. I personally used to get many more problems with the internet connection dropping rather than any issue with the wireless connection. The 360 wireless adapters are v expensive but to be honest for the hassle free set up and operation it's certainly worth it rather than trying to mangle together some other wireless connection on the cheap.
#38
Actually setting up a wireless conenction is far more hassle than pluging in a couple of dlan adapters which are plug and play and need no configuration (unlike wifi) plus offer much better performance (and cost less) Can we get back to the deal now ?
#40
resell value of all games is £36 from CEX.
Last month my xbox developed a fault ( 2 red lights). Instead of getting it fixed from microsoft ( as I got fed up and just opened it... voiding my warranty) I decided to but the xbox elite bundle from Amazon. it included 2 games and modern warfare 2 for about £210.

Selling EVEVRYTHHING exept the console and power adapter ( as its running the jasper chip)
I got a replacement console for around £80 ( £76 to be exact) ( CEX prices at the time ... modern warfare 2 =£29, Boarderlands and Dragons origin =£26 andd £29, Sold the 120gb hardrive and back elite contoller for £50)

.... so, this deal is OK if you have the hard drive from your old xbox.
REP added, as the games not selling for as much as they were before, if they were, this would have bin a VERY HOT deal.

thanks for the post
