  Just doing a bit of surfing regarding the "optional" Cinema Plug in Pack for the 101 and the 70.
  
  There was an announcement on the Archos Facebook page 2 days ago that it was being reduced in price to £8.
  
  I just registered my 101 on the Archos website and can confirm that the Cinema Plug inPack is indeed now £8. (I think it might have been £12 before Wednesday).

  the one I had was 16gb. I wonder if these are refurbished as mine didn't have the plastic screen protector on it but the box was sealed and it was also showing last viewed items.

  mmmm....disappointed...after having so much fun Angry birds, FB, Twitter, using Hotukdeals etc watching live football....woke up this morning to discover I can't connect to my wireless network ( same symptoms as posted by a few others on here) have done complete re-installation but to no avail...I know wifi is working, it sees the signal (excellent) and accepts the "stored" password but still won't connect...only worry now is, if I go back to HMV as its possibly a fault, will I get a refund (which I dont really want) or a replacement...which they are unlikely to have....mmmm

  Best bet is to get in touch with Archos if you are pleased with the unit, see f they would send you a replacement under its warranty....if however they offer a repair I would think twice.
  
  I was put off personally buying one knowing these are dated stocks of which Archos have now improved the specs of these units, 256mb of ram is an extremely low bottleneck in an otherwise really good priced Tablet, and with Comet selling the updated version of this for 160 quid and with the price of android tablet and smart phone cpus dropping I personally prefer to wait.

  For those that find it a bit laggy on the main screens, try installing ADW Launcher EX (you'll need to download the apk and install manually, but that's only a Google search away. Other apps I'd recommend for you to get the best from the device:
  
  RockPlayer Lite: Video player
  MortPlayer: Music player
  Perfect Viewer: Comic reader
  Opera Mini, Miren, DolphinHD: All alternative web browsers
  Twicca: Twitter client
  Pocket Auctions: Best eBay app
  Dropbox: Extra storage space and access to important files
  tTorrent: Torrent client
  Quadrant Standard: Benchmark software (it's about as fast as a high end smartphone).

  yup...rebooted..tried G, B, G & B, restored Archos to original settings , reformatted again , turned off power saving all usual fixes...worked great for a week...now nothing...back to HMV on Monday I think...shame, cos for the money it was good, but without wifi, might as well be a slate tablet with a piece of chalk...lol...

  Yeah the reason I bring this up is because one of my boxes has an 8gb sticker over a 16gb sticker. I believe HMV have put in a massive order to Archos for 8gb versions and Archos may not have been able to fulfull the orders so have relabled 16gb versions to 8 as they are trying to clear the stock of them. Intersested in seeing if erveryone has 16gb versions or is it luck of the draw.

  Uploaded an MKV of Star Wars - bloody thing wants a plug-in for MPEG2 that costs £8!
  
  So, downloaded AVS Video Converter V7.1.2 from Captain Jack and his crew's site.
  
  This converts to MP4s which play just fine (and use less of my 16G micro S card that I received today courtesy of the Play.com £9.99 deal on this site)

  I am getting withdrawl symptoms now and feeling really disappointed that the Wi-Fi wouldn't work but agree with the earlier post that without Wi-Fi its might as well be la slate tablet with a piece of chalk. I have looked at the others available such as the Samsung Tab and the IPad and even though they are far far more in price they don't have half the spec of this one - usb,sd card slot etc. Anybody know of one with the same spec but keener in price? Thanks in anticipation.

  I'm used to modding tablets and phones and I've rooted and installed a custom ROM on the device already. It wasn't too difficult and it makes a big difference to its performance. XDA has a good development forum for Archos gen 8 models, if anyone is thinking about modding the 101

  mmmm....got connected via wifi by sitting the tb on top of the router...even though signal was excellent everywhere in the house, did ANOTHER firmware upgrade...cant remember the number...but is now connecting again...trouble now is I cant dinstall/run arctools like I did before...bummer

  just a heads up...if you want android market/google apps installed by the arctools route...if you have updated firmware to 2.4.65 (Android 2.21 Froyo) the latest version of Arctools (0.56) won't probably run, you need to manually install Arctools 0.50 and then it will run a treat, this is by far the best/easiest way to install google apps heres some info about it

  Bought two of these for Christams prezzies from Metro Centre. Both say on the box 8gb but when I checked how much internal memory left it says nearly 15Gb so they are both 16Gb ones. I just peeled the 8Gb sticker off the front of the box to reveal the 16 Gb sign. It may help someone decide where to buy (if there are any left at the metrocentre, I dont know

  Had one of these for about a month, superb for the money screen not as vibrant as the ipad etc but still worth it..it has a mini hdmi for viewing video and pictures and even surf internet on ur home TV, you can also sync and use your mobile phone as a remote..Has its own app store which is surprisingly good but can also download apps market etc. One downside is that in order to play some video format u need to purchase a video plug in from Archos at the cost of £12 bit of a scam but you can get round this by downloadind a video player via Apps market. You can also purchase a 16gb class 10 micro sd for £14.99 from play.. In short in my opinion well worth it at this price..

  
  
  tryd a few video players but in the end i bought the video player from archos now £8 plays my blue ray rips xvids grt the other players were a bit sticky on fast scenes blue ray movies a grt on the archos
