i think this is a better deal than the samsung tab especially the screen is bigger and more cheaper
#2
Resistive or capacitive touch? iPad refurbs are a good deal at this sort of money, but it does mean you need iTunes.
#3
Very good price for a 10.1" tablet.

Will this upgrade to Android 2.3?
#4
ipads are around £300 now , and they seem more popular..

more from amazon as apparently the non flash is a thing people dont like about the ipad

Despite advertising on both the Net and the packaging, the Archos 101 DOES NOT support Flash. After doing the iPad vs comparables 'dance' for some time, I plumped for the 101 mainly as the marketing blurb spouts that it supports Java and Flash; and has a similiar spec to the iPad. It turns out that Flash wont be supported (following quote from Archos tech support) "This firmware is compatible with Flash® 10.1 but does not include the Flash® plug-in. Distribution of the Flash® plugin requires a certification by Adobe®. Flash® plugin will be available after the certification process is completed." Archos has not replied to my email in which I ask when the certification process will be complete.

Couldn't you just install it from the marketplace?

It doesn't come with the Marketplace out of the box. You have to hack the device to install the Marketplace (Google search). I believe the Marketplace app will filter what is available to you based on device, region, etc. Not saying it wont be available, just that it might not.

I suspect that there won't me much of a selection of custom ROMs available for this. How about the Advent Vega which has a huge following on the modaco.com site?
#13
I found a program u download onto the archos 101 which installs market place and gmail etc etc so flash can be downloaded. It's @ http://netbooksreview.net/tag/archos-101-marketplace/

are techdepot reliable? never heard of them before.
having looked through all the reviews of this archos it seems like a very nice piece of kit. very tempted

Eh? The Archos are about the biggest tablet maker around outside ipad and Samsung, hell I wouldn't be supprised if they are in fact bigger than Samsung on number of sales.

Archos has its own support website offering tweaks etc here - http://forum.archosfans.com/index.php?sid=fd702fd877a3a1209b9939cb9a0df758

Problem with this, and any other Archos, is supposedly the build quality can be a bit pants.

Edit: Should say personally between the 2 I would go for the Vega myself, but this is a good deal irrespective.

Bought one on a previous deal for £180. Utterly useless. Far too slow. Sold on within 48 hours. Given the next gen of these devices are imminent theres absolutely no excuse for spending £250 on this.

i have the archos 70 internet tablet (the smaller screened version of this one) and i have to say it is really good, personally i think as good as the ipad one thing i did find when i received the item was that the apps market that came with it was terrible so i looked to see if you could get google apps market place on it and found this website http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=862824 just follow the instructions on the first post.

Will tablets ever be priced at around £150? I would love one but they are too expensive compared to netbooks

Given you can by cheap chinese versions for 60 pound
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/m001-7-touch-screen-tft-lcd-google-android-1-6-tablet-pc-w-wifi-via-mw8505-300mhz-39169

And Ipad clones for not much more, I can see any reason why they should not come down in price
#27
lol yeah that one is pretty crappy :D, but spend closer to 100 pound mark the specs are not too different

(Not that I would buy one of those) My point is only that they should come down in price

The higher spec of the Advent would draw me to that over this, which is a bit underpowered for the money I'm afraid. No doubt a good little tablet in it's own right, but the Archos brand pushing the price over what it should be.

I'd avoid Archos gear as well. I used to be a supporter but the general awfulness of their products, plus the lack of any tech support, updates, etc means your money is much better spent elsewhere.
#30
I need something like this with sim card support for 3g, any ideas?
#31
Indeed but it's not for me
#32
Matt2009, why so offensive? It is a good price for a product you do not like - so do not vote. Don't vote down just because you don't like the product, it makes you look like a silly 9 year old.

Might aswell put your money in the bin this will be following not long after piece of sh/t.
Stone cold deal .

butthurt apple fanboy?
.

Not a fan of tablets in general but a refurb iPad would be more use than this crock don't spit your dummy cause your deal is **** if I could vote cold a hundred times on this deal I would terrible machine bordering on useless .

16gb ipad is OOS. Next cheapest left is the 16gb 3g version for £389.

I don't know why you are being so harsh on this tablet. It has twice the ram of the iPad's pathetic 256mb (which is half the iPhone 4 has), the iPad 1 also has a 1ghz cpu.
I'm not spitting my dummy out, I just think iPad gets praised like it's heaven sent and blows everything out of the water, but it really isn't all that.

This can work with 3G from the help of tethering :)

I think when they say 3G they mean for phone calls/SMS... afaik you cannot do this via tethering.

I use my dads iPad daily and hunted one of these down to try it out.
Pretty lame to be honest.
Build quality was poor. Cheap bouncy screen, the touch screen wasn't really that responsive.
I'm waiting another few weeks to see what the iPads end up at.
#38
im sure these things are ok, good price if you do a google, but personally id wait for android 3.0 to see if these droids can give the pads a serious run for their money
i myself have a Chinese el cheapo and im very pleased with it and ive used an ipad ;) so i had something to compare it with but i dont think tablets should cost more than a lappy so the prices on droid 3.0 need to be realistic
#39
Archos have lost their way.
